LUX I remember him in the Tilehurst end in the 70's. In those days he used to wear the scarf of the visiting team. Workington, Southport etc.
I guess he's abandoned that now?

Rudolph Hucker In an echo of Athletico Spizz's post on this subject I had the pleasure of standing next to Paul Black on the terrace at Birmingham in 1990 whilst he was spouting his stupid pro IRA songs. As a seviceman myself at the time who had served in Northern Ireland, I found this particularly annoying and provocative but couldn't get away from him.

I think this is a common problem with a lot of people i know that have Irish parents or ancestry. Generally the parents are decent enough people thoroughly ashamed of the IRA and their activities, and have come to Britain as their own Country could not support them, but the next generation, well, its their way of saying 'look at me, i'm Irish". I think It's an identity problem thing.

the thread being about the much revered Mr Black, I can only speak as found...he (and his two lapdog mates) was very much an embarressment to Reading FC at Grimsby 1987. Fortunately, despite attending hundreds of games ..our paths haven't crossed since.leon yes - they were/are prevalent irrespective of Mr Black.
It was a point on the whole 2nd/3rd generation Irish watching English football in the 80s 90s.

I'm sure we have all grown-up a bit and his aura that enchants you all is now justified.
