Agreed any fans that give abuse to a player who is just low in confidence are a disgrace IMO.

So much potential. Just not on form at the moment, it will come.

Catch 22. He's lacking confidence big time. He needs games and a flukey goal to help bring it back to bring him back to form and back to his development.

Can the team afford that right now though? Yesterday suggested that if Long's not scoring, we'll struggle for goals. If we have options who can offer more to the team straight away, I'd imagine it would make sense to pick them instead of the out of form youngster.

In other words, Church is unlikely to get what he needs. If we had the depth, perhaps a loan would help him. I don't think we do have the depth to do that with Hunt's injury record.

Something I thought about yesterday was that Long looked
to be playing on his own and was getting some very rough treatment

Hunt takes a battering too when he plays (his share) but Church doesn't ever seem to get kicked.

Is that because he doesn't go where it hurts?

Hadn't thought about that before but yes you may have a point. Long was certainly in the wars in the first half.

Different types of players IMO. Long & Hunt are the sort who go blood and thunder harrying players and getting stuck in wit their strength. Church is not, and it wouldn't be right for him to try. He can certainly hassle and hold players off to an extent, but he's more of a run off the shoulder, ghost into space and receive passes in the middle striker.

That's perfect with a passer with vision in the middle like Howard or Gylfi... it's not so great with hopeful balls into the channels or relying strong wing play.

Whilst Hunt is out and Manset is working up, we don't really have an alternative to use over Church, so I tend to think he'll get his chance - depending on Hunt's fitness. I really hope he takes it, his finishing and line running need work, but generally he tries to play in a style I really like.

Agreed any fans that give abuse to a player who is just low in confidence are a disgrace IMO.

kids are using twitter to abuse players after poor game?

jesus. hows that supposed to help.

i like church, as soon as we get someone who can play balls th eright way to him he'll be fine. he just struggles with the hoof ball.
he did get caught off side an awaful lot though, and contributed very little in truth. no surprise to see him subbed.
but hes young, this stuff happens

muddyfeet Really thought Church would step up this season, he had a very promising first season and an ok goal tally and looked to have the best pre season out of all our strikers. However at the moment he looks poor, yes he has scored some imp goals as a sub but his overall performances have been below par. What's happened?

He had a bad game yesterday that's all.

Reminds me a bit of Long. Long would be an excellent sub but constantly failed to impress when given short starting bursts and up until a few games ago wasn't anywhere near being good enough to start. Through almost unreasonable perseverance he eventually came good, (or found a good patch of form.)

If we persevere with Church for even 1/10th of the stsupid length of time we gave Long a chance to develop in a starting role who knows what he'll become.

But alas for him (or thankfully for us), now that we actually have some other strikers and therefore don't have to start him purely because we pretty much have no other choice I don't see him being given the luxury of going the unforgiveable length of time Long did without scoring before he evetually hits a good patch of form. Just won't happen (I hope!). Looks like he'll have to work very hard to fight for a spot like everyone else, which can only be good.

Affers called Church a Welsh homo and said he was shit    in equal measures

The way Church has played most of this season looks as if he's on a year long audition for Peter Pan pantomime 2011, he's currently doing brilliant as the little lost boy
