That's not unreasonably optimistic at the present time. Is it? :?

Mr Angry We simply aren't good enough to go up, and the reason is simple; we don't have enough quality in the striking department to score enough goals to win enough games; people can quote as many statistics to say white is black, and black is white but the simple fact that 24 points out of a possible 45 at home, and a total of 8 clean sheets all season (and only 1 since Christmas), is simply not good enough for a side to win promotion.

Total points? Between 58 and 63.

Final position? Between 12th and 8th.

Well, we've managed the 63 points with 7 games to go.

I guess that means seven straight defeats now...

And we will never find a striker capable of scoring 20 league goals in a season.

I think you mean NEVER, EVER

I don't think you're far wrong!! We'll win the next 7 games to give us 84 points. The FA wil get us confused with QPR and deduct 21 points from us, leaving us with 63. Now I can see why QPR nicked our shirts!!
Brilliant, Mr A, absolutely brilliant!!

Ideal 81 is what we need.

Since the leagues were reorganised in 1992 the highest points total that was required for 6th place was 76 in 2001/02. That would seem to be a good yardstick and on that basis we need 13 points out of 21. 4 wins and a draw out of 7

I'm sure 7th place won' get more than 75 points, so 75 with good goal difference will be enough. 4 wins out of 7 for us..

If only we'd managed 4-3 at home or 1-1 at Norwich...

Saturday-Tuesday is going to have a huge effect on the table.

Any side managing two wins will do themselves a huge amount of good
because there are so many six-pointers

It's going to be very hard for us to win at Forest, but we could manage it.

Scunthorpe's form is awful and we must try for a win there.

I'd be very happy with DW

But IF we can manage two wins (I think I might start going to chapel again if we do)
we could be looking incredibly good. Today and Tuesday could see our rivals drawing or losing both games

QPR have a great chance of 6 points

Leeds will do well to get a draw at Millwall, could easily lose, but they will expect to beat Derby (3 Points?)
Swansea, if they manage wins, hurt Norwich and Hull, but they could easily draw both ( say 2 points)
Forest, if they lose to us and draw with Burnley (1 point)

Norwich might, of course win at Swansea and/or Watford, but they could lose both. They'll be happy with two draws, I suspect.

Cardiff may well win at Donny, and could win at Sheffield (altho united are getting better at home)... Sadly, Cardiff might get 6 points, hopefully only 4

Would be great to see Donny and Sheffield take points of them, but not likely

Pompey may well get WW (6 points)

Burnley look like two draws, Leicester could get 4 points

01 41 44 85 QPR (6)
02 41 21 72 Norwich (getting 2 points)

03 41 21 72 Cardiff (getting 6)
04 41 24 69 Reading (getting 6)
05 41 16 68 Swansea (getting 2)
06 41 12 67 Leeds (getting 3)

07 41 09 61 Nott'm Forest (1)
08 39 03 60 Portsmouth (6)
09 41 02 60 Leicester (4)
10 41 12 59 Millwall (2)
11 41 12 58 Watford (2)
12 41 03 58 Hull (2)
13 40 06 57 Burnley (2)

1 40 37 79 QPR
2 40 18 70 Norwich
3 40 19 69 Cardiff
4 40 19 69 Swansea
5 40 22 66 Reading

Tuesday, 12 April 2011
Barnsley v QPR Maybe just a draw?
Derby v Leeds Leeds should win, but they are wobbling... so draw
Leicester v Crystal Palace Probable Leicester win
Millwall v Bristol City Good win for Millwall, surprise defeat for Bristol, so Millwall win?
Nott'm Forest v Burnley, Does this result matter any more?
Portsmouth v Coventry,
Scunthorpe v Reading Despite Scunny's 4-1 over QPR, have to think RFC can win this
Sheff Utd v Cardiff Cardiff three points?
Swansea v Hull Hull undefeated away since Sept 11th 2010
Watford v Norwich Come on, Watford, do us a favour!!!!

Table might well look like this (if RFC win)

1 41 37 80 QPR
2 41 21 72 Cardiff
3 41 18 71 Norwich
4 41 19 70 Swansea

Incredible that one 94th-minute goal (Holt at Norwich v RFC) has made such a difference...

That is usually what happens when you look back over a season though, late goals matter, we have done well to get a few as well, and what about Bellamys at Cardiff? Either, if not scored, would have put us one game away from 2nd.

Agreed, and from their POV they'd say they never gave up (like we say)
but it's not hard to imagine us on 68 points now, GD 24, Norwich 69, Cardiff 68, GD 18

True, but who's to say that those results didn't galvanise us to get on this run and without those results we might now be a few points worse off than we are.

I think it's a bit much to complain about a 4 or 5 late goals conceeded when we've scored about 18 late goals and picked up loads of late points.

Cardiff as an example, we'd have only won that game with a late goal ourselves.

75 or 76 points I reckon (3 wins out of 6) - that would moreorless guarantee playoff spot as it would mean sides outside top 6 having to get 16 out of 18 points to overtake us with our goal diff.

I just had a PM reminding me I said this:

I posted on that.

1-0 at Man City is hardly a disgrace and we were never overwhelmed.

And Karacn RB, Gunner CB, McAnuff half-fit, we did pretty well.

I'll be at Barnsley. It will be tough, but if we win there I think we'll be promoted.

Yes you heard right. if we win there, three wins on the trot, gained points on the others
kept the unbeaten league run going, other sides wobble, two home games to come which
we could win, and go to Forest on WWWWW.

I seriously believe that if we make the POs we have a great chance of going up.

Predicting two home wins of the back of a possible 3 wins in a row (possible as you said "if we win at Barnsley") isn't exactly prediction of the year, is it?

Still, if it keeps the smugness going then crack on.

Oh, and for the record - after Man City, Brendy predicted 5 wins in a row.

The prediction was if we win at Barnsley we'll be promoted.

I also said the other sides will wobble.

I made that prediction when we were 8th, 5 points off 6th.

I've been saying we would do it for a long time. The only time I thought we wouldn't was
immediately after the Sheffield Utd game when I thought 69 points and robbed by Burnley.

Once I thought Forest looked nailed on, but I later said (6-7 matches ago) that Leeds and Forest would slip and at least one, maybe both would drop out of the POs

I also said that Cardiff had the easiest run in after us and would be the biggest danger

and get rid of Long....

Brendy called 12 wins in a row a while back and I'm 99% certain he'll be proved right.
