Somebody quoted Royal Blue above so I ended up reading the guy's ignorant rubbish for a change...

My blood pressure couldn't stand reading that drivel again, but can someone tell me, did he really use oxf*rd CARDIFF as an example we should be following?

donface This board is full of spoilt babies. We are currently playing way above our historical level. Any team of our size is almost inevitably going to go backwards after finishing eighth in the top tier of one of the largest and most monied leagues in the world. The fact that we have to sell players to stay afloat suggests to me that spanking 20 million quid on Robert Earnshaw is not going to be a successful long term strategy.

Promotion was a blip. Let's hope that our extended stay in the nosebleed section of the English leagues isn't.

+1

The fickleness of some supporters, lose a few games and start calling for heads to roll, atleast we are not Thames Valley UTD or at best bust and forgotten.

Financially the football league is changing and I think this will probably lead to a Premier league 2. At the moment League two have a 60% of turnover wage cap and the football league want League One to have this rule as well. Obviously the clubs have to vote on it. The football league has said as the Championship has bigger clubs in it then we don't need this rule but another rule to regulate finances would be good. Whatever the rules brought into the championship you can see the rich clubs who (with new rules) can't buy their way up trying to get a premier league 2.

To answer the question I agree with brendy.

Wimb More to the point Doncaster have spent £1 million over 2 years..... we spent more then that buying Mills from them

Is that true though? Billy Sharp alone cost them £1.15m last summer.

I saw two blokes almost come to blows in the Allied a few weeks back after a particularly heated discussion about Madejski. It was actually like reading this board only played out of a grander, more human, and more tragic stage.

£1.1 million then, point remains we've spent more, and that Doncaster are below us in the table anyway so what's the point comparing the two.

PistolPete  Ok, so Doyle, Hunt, Bikey, Kitson, Shorey, Sigurdsson, Sonko etc etc have been sold and not properly replaced.

:) However, we are on a sound financial footing and young Reading born players are getting experience in a mid table championship team.

:| Bear in mind that Rodgers was sacked after only a short time in charge and the chief scout was appointed - a move also sanctioned by Madejski.

So, DO YOU BACK THE CHAIRMAN???

15/02/2011

Actually if you dissect that post you find the following:

Doyle - £78,000
Hunt - Free
Bikey - £1m
Kitson - £150,000
Shorey - £25,000
Sigurdson - Academy
Sonko - Free

So only one of those players cost any significant money and I don't remember any street parties being thrown out of delight when we signed them but this has become the blueprint for future success so yes I back the Chairman / board / manager etc to deliver a reasonable acheivement level on a budget which matches our means.

Our crowds are midtable Championship, our team is midtable Championship - so why do people always insist on tying our perceived status inexorably to history :|

Yep. But we're not overachieving, as has - quite disgracefully - been suggested.

I think we're at about the right level tbf. Might get lucky and challenge for promotion again in a few years, might get relegated, but the natural level is about right.

More than somewhat. Is this a thinly veiled attack on the board? I think I might french-kiss you if so.

no. but thats only cos i see no point in attacking board and chairman for not handing us free money, when they have no free money to dish out even if they were inclined.
and whereas youd say thats cos we didnt invest enough when we went up, id say we didnt do that because we refused to gamble the clubs future, and imagine where wed'd be if we had spent more, and still come down, like many other clubs have.

just different sides of the same coin, the only difference is emphasis imo.

He doesn't have to spend his own money. He could seek others with money to join him on the board.

Which bit of others with money is not other people's money?

You have such an anti-Madejski attitude that you can come out with such wonderful comments :D

Equally some of you are so blinded by Madejski's past successes that you are completely unable to see how he is now failing to walk the walk promised when he was talking the talk.

Yes, new investors are 'other people's money' but they would be investing because they wanted to spend/invest their money not because I was doing it for them. Is that really too difficult a distinction for you and others to understand?

As for loans, once again those lending the money are doing so because they want to not because I am spending their money for them!

And if you want to play obtuse, what about our money that is being spent? Have you really forgotten all those the times that Madejski appeared in the media reminding the local people and community that they too should be coming along and spending their money to support their (sic) club?

I'm sure that Madejski will be gratified to see that the majority still think he is doing the right thing for the team (surely that should be club which is rather different). However, the percentage of disillusioned is growing and that is only amongst those that are hanging around. Thousands have already expressed their view by ceasing to buy tickets and that number will have increased come the start of next season.

I have to say I'm totally with you on this one.

There must be hundreds of rich people out there who'd be only too happy to give their money away to the football club in the hope that we'll go up. It's definitely fishy to suggest that lack of such people at Reading is because they haven't come forward.

Did this secret, made-up survey give you a number?
Thousands expressed their view? When was this exit poll carried out.

People become disillusioned for all sorts of reasons, personally I don't give a shiny shite who is disillusioned, but that's another story.

Madejski doesn't need to tell me to come to the game, he's obviously speaking to a certain kind of fan.
Those sort of fans, always leave, come back, and leave again, and come back again.

Every single club outside (and a fair few inside) the top flight have 'em.

They came to the FA Cup match against Villa last season, and they'll be back again whenever the opposition suits their 'standard', or if we get to the play offs, or if we steam in triumphant in a Championship winning season.

Couldn't care less about them.
