Ian Royal
Schards#2 I'm with Zammo here, that was the most important goal in the clubs history.

Not the greatest day for me as I remember driving home just feeling numb at the relief of it all rather than elated.

My greatest day would be Leicester away and the party in town afterwards. The culmination of a life long ambition and no pressure or tension throughout.

I agree... In all likelihood we'd have failed in the play offs (AGAIN) because we'd forgotten how to win a match, the team would have broken up, Pards would have fecked off for someone bigger and we'd have been left in a half-filled stadium we hadn't got even close to finishing paying for with Mr Mad getting fed up at having chucked decent amounts of cash at us and watching us choke.

Doyle's goal didn't matter, it was inevitable we got promoted at that point. Gunnarsson's header against Sheffield was more important than that IMO.

Sekou Baradji's best (and only) contribution to Reading FC, taking that free-kick :) As I remember, Doyle's goal didn't matter at all, we were promoted even if we lost as Sheff Utd couldn't get a result. But the joy was incredible, definitely the best feeling I've ever had as a Reading supporter. It was inevitable we'd get promoted at some point that season too, it didn't have to be then (though I think this was the earliest promotion in a season ever?). You could argue that Murts' goal was one of the most important because it set the record for points in a season... but Cureton's goal for me has to be the most important goal I've seen us score - as you said, Brentford had to win to go up, all we needed was a point... and my idol at the time hit the perfect goal (as Ingi tried in vain to stop it going in!).

Of course, if it comes down to the last game of the season and we need a win to go up then that'll be pretty important too... but I don't think it will match either of Brentford or Leicester - the nature of the situations (poor form at Brentford, setting records at Leicester) ensure that for me.

Royal Lady Eh? Wasn't that when we rushed to get back to the Mad Stad and welcome the players home or am I confusing it with another game?

There were certainly a lot of RFC fans at the Madejski after the Brentford game waiting for the coach to arrive - I remember John Mackie climbing through the sun roof on the the roof of the coach and having a little dance with a can of beer in his hand

That's the one - Schards certainly didn't let on that he was non-plussed by the result!!

Spent the day boozing in Ealing. Didn't have a ticket so had a couple of unsuccessful attempts at blagging my way in / climbing over the back wall. Ended up passing out in a pub near Griffin Park but snuck in for the last 10 minutes and the celebrations.

Can't remember much about the rest of the day other than nicking a bottle of red wine from a boozer somewhere, then spending the night singing Hey Jude outside Three Guineas / throwing up everywhere.

Gr8 day out.
