for f*cks sake get a grip you ponces. apparently we'd blown our chances a couple of months ago. Now we're well in the playoffs and are absolutely the form team- all the the other teams will be sh*tting themselves about us - we've got momentum like a train - Norwich and the rest are looking over their shoulders.

Hants Royal Unfortunately the great run of form we have been on and hope for 2nd place has resulted in a feeling that if we do not make it and 'only' make the play offs then it will be a disappointment. I hope the players don't feel that way and enter the play off games (assuming we don't make 2nd) in that frame of mind because in reality 10 games ago most of us had written off the play offs as a distant dream.
Making the play offs would still be a great achievement this season! Having said that, i'm not sure I can endure another play off rollercoaster :| so 2nd place it must be!

This was exactly my point on a different thread. My main concern is that all our momentum will evaporate with the disappointment of missing out on 2nd, and despite an amazing run to get into the play-offs, there will be an air of disappointment that it wasn't more, and we will fizzle out.

I hope that this doesn't happen, but McD is gonna have a job on his hands to pick the players up again if we miss out on auto on the last day of the season by a single point. There can be no doubting the fact that would be a massive disappointment, no matter how good the run was that led us to that position.

All we can ask for though is that we just keep winning and come may 7 (or may 30) we are celebrating!

Once again it could end up as last day of the season v Derby.

I think we'd have a much better chance if the fight between Norwich and Cardifffor second wasn't close. Either might be a bit more complacent without the other watching and hoping for QPR to slip up and forget about us 2-3 points back.

As it is I think they're likely to spur each other on in the knowledge that the one who misses out is likely to be a little deflated and struggle to lift themselves going into the play offs.

We ain't out of it, but all we can do is win all our games and hope that both slip up. One is fairly likely, both + us winning another four? Long shot, but then being where we are was a bigger long shot a month ago.

Why presume that both Cardiff and QPR will "do the business"?

If Cardiff beat QPR tomorrow, QPR might well wobble

A Cardiff
H Hull
A Watford
H Leeds

QPR could EASILY lose all four of those games, as the FA hearing gets ever closer.

Cardiff or Norwich could be fighting for TOP spot (and a 12 point deduction for QPR would nicely complcate matters)

OTOH QPR could prove they are the best side in the division and tank Cardiff 3-0 for us on Saturday

Cardiff

H QPR
A Preston
H Middlesbrough
A Burnley

QPR obviously losable, or could be a draw
Preston are not bad at home lately and are still fighting to stay up.
Up to there 3-1 reverse at Burnley, Boro were on a great run of form
If we beat Leeds Burnley may well need a win or draw against Cardiff to make the POs

Pressure is a wondrous force. The proper application of it can make matter behave in ways which it normally won't. The pressure of trying to run it in to get an automatic promotion coupled with the pressure we're exerting from just behind, provided we stay on form, might result in unexpected outcomes. We need to take care of our business and see what pressure has in store for the others.

Coventry holding on for the home draw with Scunny taps the bar to irrevocable safety down to 52 points and makes Coventry safe on 53 points (and the bar is pegged, for now, to Preston's max possible haul)

The minimum number of points required to maintain a challenge for sixth place holds at 53 for all sides with four remaining matches (from which 12 points would equal 65 and match Leeds going without a win or draw the rest of the way, irrespective of goal-difference differential, how the sides placed in between fare and so on)

So anyway congratulations Coventry City --your first mathematically assured mid-table finishers of 2010-11 :|

So in the game just starting do we want Forest to beat Leicester and go above Leeds thereby adding more pressure, or do we want Leeds to relax a bit if Forest lose

If Forest lose, then they are 9 points behind us with only 3 games left, and an inferior goal difference, so it would virtually guarantee us a play-off place.

It would give Leeds some breathing space, so hopefully with the pressure off them tonight, we could have an easier time.

So I want Leicester to win, although i feel sorry for Forest. I would rather they made the play-offs then Leeds, so it would be a shame for them to lose, but i think a Leicester win is in Reading's best interests

Forest 1-0 up, so they've moved up to 6th.

Pressure all on Leeds now. They will have to come at us tonight, therefore we will win on the counter.

TBH, i don't really care how Forest - Leicester finishes, let's just focus on winning our own games, and let everyone else get on with theirs

Leicester equalised.

Leeds back up to 6th. Pressure is all off them now, meaning they will relax and we can go up there and win.

Why am i even bothering to comment on this anymore?

I'd sooner see (?) Leicester spoken of as "the best side to finish outside of the top six" than to see them playing on deeper into May

Leeds' attitude toward things doesn't factor in my calculations, nor do I reckon that what's going on at City Ground will influence their own

Therefore, Forest FTW or a draw works for me
