Then how much is Shane Long worth?

Long is still relatively young, albeit not 18, but scored nearly threefold the amount of goals last season than Wickham and is proven at Championship level, and has full international experience. Reading could easily say to any interested clubs that they want at least £9m, and be justified.

I am fully aware clubs pay a premium for English players, but up to £13m for Wickham seems extravagant. I wish I could say Reading have an oppurtunity to hold on to Long now, but I know anything around the £6-7m mark would be accepted.

Long has one year left on his contract and is about 6 years older than Wickham, who is English and has broken through to the first team far faster than Long could manage.

I think that pretty much says it all about the likely difference in value.

connor is younger, so can potentially improve more than shane, and possibly from a higher base.

Connor is also English so his value is grossly inflated. Shane Long is Irish, therefore, his price is reasonable.

However if we got £3-4 million that would be a great deal, after all he only has a year left, he is older and has only had one season like last.
