Lambert at home to Forest 1997 or Nogan against Bolton in the play off final in 1995.

Jeff King - playing for Sheff Utd at Elm Park.

Now that's what I call a volley.

Lita's again West Brom was a bit special - as was the Cureton 'dipper' into the north goal. Can't remember who it was against though.

Madstad to Nadderud It has to be Jimmy Quinn's goal against Wolves (forget which season but think it was when Jim and Mick were joint managers and had to win to fight off relegation) when he was quite a way outside of the wolves' goal area, back to the goal as well and at a difficult angle, he somehow (if my memory serves me right) flicked the ball up in front of him and turned and swivelled and hit the ball on the volley over his head...truly incredible and stuff Roy of the Rovers is made of!!! I think David Downs mentions this goal in one of his books as well.
You beat me to it....a 3-0 win when we needed it most......and an evening game too

Never seen a better goal anywhere......a very acute angle indeed.............and here endeth the thread for me

Video footage or it never happened...

in all seriousness, can someone explain Friday's goal?
Back to goal 20 yards out, ball comes to Friday, poss chest, then a couple of keepy ups, leaving ball aroud chest height, twisted and caught ball with right foot to shoot home,to score what is simply the best ever RFC goal, why was it so good? Because he knew exactly what he was doing, no fluke about it.

That's a pretty good description. Reading were 2-0 up after two first half John Murray penalties. Ball came in from the left. Friday chests it down, juggles, swivels and hits a big dipper that actually hit the bottom corner of the net. In the context of Division 4 footy, it was stunning.

The only goal that I have seen since that comes closest to execution is Thierry Henry's effort against Man Utd in 2003.

Bit like this one as you say but Friday gave the defenders more time with a couple of keepy uppeys.

End. Of. Thread.

Absolutely. To make it easier for the newbies, why not retitle this thread "best ever RFC MadStad goal", because Friday's Tranmere effort will simply never be beaten.?

Could you describe to me in great detail how the goal was scored, distance from the goal, where he was placed and where he struck the ball from, where the ball ended in the goal (was it right in the top corner bottom corner)

How many touches?? Are there any modern goals it slightly resembles, to get a vague idea

much appreciated ?

Little away at Plymouth was the best goal I have ever seen a Reading player score. Although Fozzy scored some decent ones, Sheff utd away sticks in my mind.

Actually this is a pretty good video .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ssxKVAUQQI

If only we had someone like Fozzy in this team now!

Sounds similar to Quinn's against Wolves back at Elm Park in the late 90s. Which I think probably gets my vote for best goal I've ever seen live.

As I remember it he receives the ball, back to goal, few yards right of centre just outside the penalty area at the Tilehurst end. One touch to control it flicking it up, a second touch to flick it up to around his right shoulder, pivot and left foot volley into the goal. Absolutely sublime.

Has to be Robin Friday from the evidence of those that were there, not least Clive Thomas (just look at his reaction in the 2nd photo)

The one's I've seen

Colin Duncan volley from about 30 yards into the town end at EP - can't remember when or who against but he didn't score that many

Best header = Jimmy Quinn away at Blackpool

EDIT - Martin Hicks' thunderbolt from around the half way line (at least that's how I remember it) away at Palarce wasn't too shabby either

Little vs Plymouth was special, very special, as was Matejovsky vs Redscouse. My personal favourite still was the De La Cruz goal vs Sheffield Utd. For such an unassuming player, it was a very special run and an even better finish.

Honourable mention goes to the Doyle goal vs Wolves away on Boxing Day in the record breaking season. Convery broke down the left, seemingly overhit the ball so the right-back gave up, but Convey had actually played the ball back off the corner flag and sent in a peach of a cross for Doyler to score. Great goal simply for the audacity of the build-up.

Dylan Kerr home to Stoke when we beat them 4-0 and they had about 25 players unfairly sent off.

Does anyone have footage of Jimmy Quinn's goal v Wolves in the 3-0 win that kept us up? In all seriousness, it was pretty much as desbribed for the Robin Friday goal, only from an acute angle. Best goal i have seen in over 30 years of going. Marek's at Anfield was the best of the Mong Stad era.
