I think the point being missed is that Church is sh/t and has only scored when it's harder to miss.

The crisp eating, silver templed grinwit of 'They Think It's All Over' wasn't sh/t, and scored goals deliberately, i.e. kicking the ball in an intended direction.

Using one to justify the other is the act of a toilet attendant.

"Tries Hard" is what a PE teacher writes sympathetically writes on the report card of a kid with severe mental retardation. I wish we would stop championing this quality as football gold dust.

Jesus, the point was that all that matters is being in the right place at the right time to score. Which Lineker was an expert in. You don't need a great deal else if you can do that well.

When Church was scoring it was largely because his movement and awareness was very good and he was in the right place at the right time. Shinning goals in by accident doesn't make the goal count for less and you still have to be in the right place at the right time to score.

Since that season he's largely been poor - bar a couple of good games when he came back into the side this season. We've got a pretty attrocious scoring rate when he's on the pitch and I think he's running out of chances, but there is something there in the lad.

Whether he makes it or not is questionable, but we really aren't doing a lot to help him at the moment with our piss poor midfield creativity, general style of play, misfiring wingers and a player making a two division step up as his most regular partner.

I think we're all missing the key question about Simon Church, which is: has he grown the worst movember tache ever?

Bah. Can't get the picture to work. It's on one of those from the Ipswich game. Worrying.

It's simples. Ever since that leap like Billy the Fish in the last minute away to Derby we knew that Shane was a good'un.

Churchy has simply failed to deliver despite extensive opportunities. He doesn't work hard enough, isn't great with his noddle, won't put his foot in, and is too slow to close down - but, then again, I'm not an over-rated, over-paid manager.

Sorry, Churchy, you may be one of Wales's finest - but you're not good enough. Barndoor Banjo.

Cant disagree with any of the above , says it perfectly i think .

Players have to contribute to a side , and Church doesnt have anything to contribute to this side or anyother side he will play for .

Church now joint top-scorer and has played 160-odd minutes less that Alf

Fair play to him - today he did his job and put away one tap in from Alfie's cross and a good header.

This is a good start to try and convert some fans (me included) to Church fans.

Without meaning to be too harsh on him - he probably won't get a better chance to get a hatrick.

And to be fair has been much less creative + threatening in general and has 4 fewer assists. But well done to him.

I made that point in the chat room, but with a bit of tongue in cheek whilst hoping to be wrong. And to be fair, our scoring record with Church on the pitch is still significantly less than a goal a game, even after the three today.

I've been a big supporter of Church over the last few years. Started to lose faith a couple of weeks ago though.

Funny that when he has started recently we rarely lose the games, regardless of whether he plays the 90 or not.

Trust the manager, try to support the player, has to be the best option.

When he's left the pitch, we've only been winning two games this season if I've got my facts straight. That's from 16 appearances. I like him, I'm not sure he's really going to cut it at this leve anymore, but he's done himself a massive favour with that brace.

We could do with a settled front two and when Church had his run with Le Fondre we were firing blanks too much. Hunt hasn't had the chance to get a decent run of games with ALF, and I think he should, but then whilst I like Hunt's contribution, I don't actually like him.

Church's goals may well get him his second chance and forge a strong partnership with ALF... or it could keep us chopping and changing longer and prevent what might be our best partnership forming between Hunt and ALF.

Tricky times.
