Only 14 at the time, where have those years gone? Seemed unreal that (a) RFC were at Wembley and (b) 40,000 fans were there. I can remember that the local market traders made good business on their flags and were far better than the 'COURAGE...oh, Reading are at Wembley' official versions available at Elm Park. We saw Trevow Senior at the end of the game (in a fetching sheepskin coat if memory serves), the look to my"I bet you wish you were playing today, Trev" lives on.

Someone touched upon Colin Bailie falling out with Branfoot - I think he kicked off straight after the win against Coventry in the SF as he knew Stevie Rich would get back in the side once he returned from injury, In truth, Bailie only played as Horrix (RIP) went to Millwall a couple of weeks before the final.

Maybe slightly off tangent but next year does represent the 25th anniversary - will RFC look to hold something to commenerate this. In addition, maybe next season's away kit should be in homage to our one Wembley victory...

Little old Reading - at the old 'proper' Wembley, too. Top tier behind the goal going radio.

Clearly remember sitting on the terrace well after the final whistle looking out across Wembley and thinking: "I wonder if we'll ever play here again?"

And then driving back home to Stony Stratford through very slow traffic surrounded by Luton and loving it - and then getting totally bladdered in the Cock and the Bull.

That is a great idea.

Not only my first ever Reading game but my first ever football match (I was 9). Talk about starting at the top and heading downwards.

I didn't really follow RFC at the time beyond looking at their result on the vidiprinter every Saturday, but was incredibly excited when my dad asked if I wanted to go. The buzz in the playground and primary school was tangible.

Only fleeting memories of the day as you'd expect for a 9 year old, but things that stand out:

Seeing a Rolls Royce in the car park with Luton ribbons on it.
Harford scoring (we were by the corner flag)
Turning round repeatedly to look at the crowd - i'd never seen so many people
The scoreboard saying "4. Stuart Beavon" (or something like that)
The fourth goal
The scoreboard saying "Congratulations Reading" at the end and just staring at it feeling like I was having a dream

Didn't see any of the match again until someone put it on YouTube so thanks to whoever did that. Goals weren't *quite* as I remembered but that's memory for you

I was there. Went on a double decker bus from the Bird in Hand pub in Tilehurst.

I was 26 :| There was a pub near Wembley Way with a big singsong between both sets of fans, got a bit nasty as time went on. No idea where it is/if it's still there.

I was there - we got out before it got nasty.

maybe.

Fairly small pub (compared to the one RFC fans were allocated last May, for example).

Memories of the day

Waking up late, clocks went forward that weekend!! Leaving my Capri Laser in a side street off Caversham Road when I saw my mates walking to the station!

Having a few beers and a steak breakfast in Oxford Street.

Getting on a tube train full of Luton on the way to wembley.

Drinking warm beer in Wembley high street.

Chatting to Kevin Bremner who was there to watch us after leaving Reading for Brighton.

Shouting "I don't care if we f***ing lose, I am at Wembley with Reading" as Mick Harford scored.

Losing my voice by half time!!

Getting hammered on the way home, falling asleep in the corridor of a football special train from Paddington. Then woken up by my mates covered in footprints after my corridor snooze!!

Carrying on getting hammered in Reading, to this day I do not know how I got home!!

Then the next day my old man took me to Caversham to find the Capri, which took us at least 1/2 an hour!!

Happy days!!
