TBM has a point though, that game did highlight the reasons why we are on course for relegation. We have an inability in defending against attackers with pace and we now have gotten sloppy in the dying moments of the halves, the latter which used to be our strongest point.

This hasn't just been in the last game either...

- Everyone is desperate for Alex Pearce (a man with all the pace of a steamroller) back in the side.

- Jay Tabb has just started two games in a row for us.

- Mikele Leigertwood is our best player.

We back off and back off and back off until they score.

Happened against Swansea, happened against Fulham, happened tonight

Look how Norwich beat Arsenal the other week and that was holding a 1-0 lead

Dear oh dear - its humiliating, it really is

Because we just don't have enough talent to compete at this level. I love the guys and I DEFINITELY feel the core of this team is a good one, but not enough was done to make sure we stay up...that is why we're going down. And when we do go back down what talent we have at the core of this team will get picked over by larger teams despite us having a Russian oligarch as an owner.

I'm not sure I agree you know. I think a lot of the players are good enough it's just tactically we are too naive.

We did it most of last year too. But got away with it because the teams weren't anywhere near as clinical or quick.

All in all this PL lark is quite depressing.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough, I do believe a lot of the players we have can cut it at this level. We just don't have the depth, and talent at key positions, to cut it at this level. I don't know what more can be done tactically. We have sat back and blown leads and we have tried to attack and blown leads. Tactics, and results, are dictated by the resources at your disposal...we are good enough at points, just not good enough for the entire game.

Their target for the next game has to be a clean sheet at all costs. The whole team needs to take responsibility for it. Lots of pressing, closing down & not falling asleep for set pieces. I really don't know where we go from here. What a blow that was tonight. A real shame for Brian.

Can you honestly say, after last night's game against Arsenal's "B" team, we have a clean sheet in our near future? :?

Here is a look statistically;

Possession:
Reading: 35%
Arsenal: 65%

Goal Attempts:
Reading: 19
Arsenal: 34

Shots on Target:
Reading: 9
Arsenal: 13

Goals:
Reading: 5
Arsenal: 7

There is no way we can soak up that kind of pressure game after game and not concede at this level. And these stats are fairly indicative of every game we play. I think at Anfield we limited Liverpool to 58% possession. That might be a highwater mark for us so far this season. The teams at this level are just too talented to let them have that much of the ball and that many attempts on goal to expect clean sheets.

Yes, because Arsenal's B team are better than Villa, Wigan, Southampton and Norwich. Any B team with Arshavin, Walcott and Giroud is no bad side...

Libertine is right though - pretty much every match so far as been 30-35% posession for us. Not enough!

clueless, honestly i loved it when people look at stats as they DONT always show a real reflection of the game

look at last year soton and this year chelsea loads of shots 20ish but 90% were in row z!!

even better spurs at home, spurs managed to score without having a shot in the 1st half according to Sky

i just loved stats from the bbc:-
also you are reading too much into stats - alot of sides like arsenal and fulham keep the ball and play it around the back - look at fulham near 60% possesion in the 1st half and not ONE attempt on goal

im also for scrapping the current stupid stats and have a stat which shows how much threat a team possess - like in the 1st half tonight arsenal had loads of possession but did nothing, we had less possesion but almost every time we attacked we looked like scoring

Last season our game plan was to soak up pressure, hit the other team on the break and then hold on.

Unfortunately we are up against better players and our defenders are simply not good enough.

That is why we are going down.
