andrew1957 Brian had some very good performances for us (particularly Cardiff at home in late 2010) and I cannot understand a lot of the negativity towards him, but it is right for him to move on now.

Good luck Brian - hope you find some first team football.

Nope, couldn't remember that performance. Had to read the HNA match review which said...

The remainder of the half was remarkably open with both teams finding space to build attacks. Olufinjana was dominant in midfield swatting Howard away as if he were an irritating fly, but City's passing often let them down at crucial moments

"Very good performance"

We dominated midfield in that match, created loads of chances and were only denied by the phantom goal.

Became quite a fan of Howard after Rodgers disastrous spell ended and we stopped trying to pretend he was a goalscoring attacking midfielder for the hole, or a left winger.

He was tidy in possession, quite clearly the best passer of the ball of any midfielder we had (other than Gylfi) and could put a bit of work in. His partnership with Tabb was one of the things that turned our season around when McDermott came in iirc...

I thought he'd make a pretty good partnership with Ledge personally, obviously less mobile and defensive than Karacan but adding more guile and threat through the middle.

But he wasn't the fittest looking, had a habit of jumping into tackles stupidly sometimes and fell over a bit too easily. Jem's been brilliant so I can see why he hasn't really been used. Definitely time to move on and I wish him all the best. One of those players that was nearly good enough to do great things with us, but never quite delivered and ended up being a disappointment.

Says something about our progress that a player deemed not good enough and surplus to requirements would have walked in to any pre 2003 team.

One of those players I always wanted to see do well but who rarely played at the level you know he is capable of.

Howard let himself down, if I was in his position I would have wanted to be the first name on the team sheet every week as he had the chance with RFC to make the midfield position his.

Howard did not acheive this for some reason, we will have to ask him why!!!

bigmike who cares ... He handed his transfer request in so as far as I am concerned he has no part to play at Reading... I would normally say good luck to him at his new club but in this case I wont..

For loyalty he gets a big Screw you Howard

Some of you guys have got such a short (and sad) memory.

Good luck Brian.!!!!!

Easier for him to re-build his career if he's a big fish in a small pond although I am sure he'll get offers from the Championship - good luck Brian

I will always remember the late eqauliser against WBA, and nearly coming to blows with those toss pot West Brom stewards, just for trying to throw his shirt to the fans. Good luck

Absolutely, one of my favourite goals in recent years. We really have had some fantastic away days under Brian.

I can't recall one single performance from Howard that suggested he was anywhere close to being the player others insist he could have been.

My hunch is that he's never given 100% since he's been here and took it easy once he had a decent contract but, perhaps, he just wasn't good enough to make the grade.

Either way, never being a holding midfielder, where we've always had better options, he needed to justify his place offensively and never got off first base in that respect.

Whilst others bang on about his passing ability, I remember the next person to touch the ball after him invariably playing for the opposition. In fact, I used to laugh at those slagging off Mat Mill's passing and thinking.......................what makes him any worse than Howard :| Nevertheless, I wish him all the best for the future.

Has he signed? He had talks but I didn't know if they went any where. It's very early in the summer, so it would make sense for him to bide his time and see what offers are out there before committing.

Barnsley fans still want him back. I think he needs to drop down so he can be a main player again.

I don't think he's signed for them yet but Donny fans confirmed he has had talks. Heard Colchester might be keen too, but seems a bit quiet as far as Championship clubs are concerned.

I think his 10 assists in a season and a half might disagree with your view of him.
