Zammo Oh......Wrexham away, first game of the new season, the new Tommy Burns era, loads of new signings etc.... Got beat 3-0, could have been 10-0. Long journey back.

Remember that one, van der Kwaak going to punt a clearance from a back pass, missing the ball completely and it trickling in to the net right in front of us...

I would go with an away cup tie at Halifax in the late 90s. Open terrace, it pissed it down all game, howling gale - the coldest and wettest I have ever been at a game. A late equaliser (Parky I think) earned a 1-1 draw and a replay.

The game however is most memorable for the "bench" - a row of white plastic garden chairs - being blown on to the pitch and the game having to be stopped whenever the managers got up off them to berate the players.

As I posted last time you posted about this game ......

Remember the rain and the plastic garden furnitures - and remember one of the chair's legs slowly sinking into the ground - everyone could see it slowly sinking, except the one sitting on it, who ended up in the mud when it got to the (actual) tipping point.

Pissed on at Wolverhampton
Beaten up at Stoke.

93 or 94 Swansea City at Elm Park: Spat at on Oxford Road by Swansea fans on way to ground, wasn’t even wearing colours. Swansea fans invaded the pitch and The South Bank and were running along the roof of the stand. One fan ran in front of the South Bank before kick off, pulled down his jeans, bent over and pulled his arse crack apart. He was then arrested. Pretty sure we won 2-0.

Stoke away in mid 90s was pretty hairy, as was Molineux . Classic smash and grab 1-0 away wins with unhappy locals waiting outside and police doing nothing. Asked a plod to stop the kicking and spitting coming our way, he just said “You know the risks coming here”

Worst ever performance maybe Crystal Palace at home under Terry the Taxi.

It is a classic tale in lower league footballing experiences that are now all too rare watching Reading sadly! (barring a good cup draw)

Vision Pissed on at Wolverhampton

Yes, that was part of the experience I was referring to above.
When we pointed it out to the stewards, they were selectively ignorant.
They say smell is the most evocative sense for memories - piss was part of the atmosphere I recall now - running the gauntlet back to the car parks.
Bloody animals.

Are you saying that the Reading fans were in the stand below, with the Wolves fans in the stand above, and they pissed down onto you?

I think they actually pissed into plastic cups and threw those, rather than directly pissing down, but the effect was the same.

Oh thanks. It was the grotesque vision of it all that was getting to me, but that is still equally disgusting. Animals.

Not to mention coins, tea/coffee and phlegm.

TBF, the whole incident did mean that a whole lot of Reading supporters leant to spell "phlegm".

Schards#2 For worst all round experience rather than worst performance (but incorporating a terrible performance) i'd go with Rochdale away circa 1980.

In those days we used to take two coaches at most to away games up north many of whom were women or pensioners, therefore, there were only a handful of young males that were considered legitimate targets by the rougher home fans. There was no segregation and we were spat at and intimidated by 10-20 Rochdale fans all game which we lost 4-1 in pissing rain. Followed by a life endangering unescorted walk back to the coach which was hit by a stone on the way out of town.

I do wonder how some of our younger gobby contingent would have got on in those days.

What about your worst Man City experience?

cmonurz Getting stuck in traffic on the way to Ashton Gate, we were already 1-0 down when we arrived, and the second goal went in as we walked into the ground. Iirc we lost 4-0 and hardly touched the ball.

Luton away in the league cup wasn’t great either. Again arrived late, ended up near the back, literally cut both knees to shreds so cramped were the seats, got piss on my shoes (and someone else’s) in the bogs, and got a parking ticket to boot.

What about your worst Liverpool experience? Or was it not knowing who to support when Reading and Liverpool play each other?

I presume they don't still have the away fans under the home fans anymore at Molineux?

Remember some delightful stuff coming down at us last time I went. Not sure what year that was (03?), but they were wearing Dorito sponsored shirts and had Ince in the midfield.

I do remember what looked to be a king size Yorkie being launched from our bit at the celebr8ing Wolves players, Dean Sturridge (or one of the black players) was horrified :!:
I also remember a lad infront of me standing on his seat Nazi saluting the home end LOL

Got the train from Reading to Birmingham and then caught another train, but as we left Brum the train was running slow and then stopped. The train driver told the train he knew he had a problem before departing but was told to carry on. We eventually changed trains at Telford or Wolves and were told we could get the train to Shrewsbury and then a taxi would be given for onward journeys to all passengers. Eventually arrived in the second half and had to pay to get in,I think I got in just as they scored their third!
Shit day, shit team, shit result.

The good ol days!
