main problem in last few games for me has been playing jobi on the wrong side to fit in HRK

hrk did have a decent couple of games, but imo he is no more of a threat than mcleary, and it means mcanuff plays on a side he really isnt very good on.(united aside ive never seen him play well there)

i also think, that while ALF may be a natural finisher, he doesnt offer alot more, and we should have Nhunt on from the start, with alf as the impact sub.
with pog alongside.

CBs and RB are much of a muchness, doesnt really matter who we choose there.

Let's go mental:

-------------Federici-----------
Cummings--Pearce---Shorey
---------Leigertwood----------
McCleary--Guthrie--McAnuff
---Roberts-------RobsonKanu-
-----------Le Fondre-----------

A nice 3-1-3-2-1.

Subs: Andersen, Mariappa, Harte, Tabb, Gunnarsson, Hunt, Samuel.

with guthrie in the middle with tabb

or play tabb mcanuff and guthrie in the middle, with mcleary or hrk on one wing

You're right about going mental, Optimist.
Leigertwood to be link up man with midfield? He can't pass to someone more than two feet away unless it's the opposition. He'd just be piggy in the middle as it's hoofed over his head.

howser I think the composition of the side is pretty irrelevant as long as we keep playing this championship style and continually thumping the ball upfield, giving it back to the opposition, certainly Guthrie to start along with Pearce, would like to see Taylor in goal, according to yesterdays reports Federici had a large number of iffy moments

corrected for you. Taylor must be crapping himself. He might have to play a competitive game, and there was he thinking he was getting a nice fat wad and still continuing to not have to do have anything for it

Exactly. Sunderland aren't the greatest attackers in the league, so we could afford to play 3 at the back with Leigertwood as a defensive midfielder, sit Guthrie in the middle and have plenty of attacking options around him to create chances. We've lost 4 on the bounce and desperately need a result, lets chuck everything at them!

He's not the link up man, solely a defensive midfielder, with Guthrie in front of him who has with plenty of options around him.

Alexander Litvinenko It's not a question of making a few changes to the team - that's like shuffling around the deckchairs on the titanic.

You can't do anything if you don't have the basic raw materials, and the bulk of the squad simply isn't good enough.

Wrong. Last season the players were not good enough for the top spot as individuals. But the team effort made the difference. So you can shuffle around a bit in case the players play better.

The problem isn't just the personnel but the style of play. Until we can get the ball down consistently and have players who aren't afraid on the ball, we won't improve.

Fed

Cummings
Pearce
Mariappa
Shorey

McLeary
Tabb
Guthrie
McAnuff

HRK

As BMD might say at the moment - "why change a losing side?" I have great faith.....etc...etc... bored with it- shake it up properly or don't bother because it cannot get any worse than yesterday.

Play the feckin' acadamy lads as at least they may show some desire at 0-1.

FWIW and at the fear of repeating myself time and time again.

Last year we threatened only from wing play - and got away with it. This year Kebe obviously doesn't fancy it. McAnuff, HRK and McCleary are, without wasting words, just not good enough and are no better than each other.

Tabb couldn't get in our Championship side and Legsofwood was off-loaded pretty sharpish by QPR 2 years ago for not being up to it in the Prem. The number of goals the Oppo score from maurading around our 'D' for 2 defensive mids is purely just not acceptable (and laughable)

My team, based on McD's favouritisms and aknowledging injuries (i.e Morrison will not play)

Feds
Cummings - Pearce - Gorkss - Shorey
Mapps
HRK - Guthrie - McAnuff
Hunt - Roberts

Still, I agree with a previous poster it really is like shuffling the deckchairs on the titanic.

FFS shake it up properly and stuff it full (!) of PL experience and youth

Taylor

Harte Pearce Gunnar Shorey (Capt)
Guthrie
HRK Tabb Obita
Robert Samuel

Subs - dont care as we know he will bring on Hunt and Macanuff as the latter is a quite possibly a love child...

Best team performance for me was against Chelsea - this team played
Reading: A Federici, I Harte, C Gunter, K Gorkss, A Pearce, J McAnuff, M Leigertwood, D Guthrie, J Karacan (A Le Fondre, 71), G McCleary (H Robson-Kanu, 86), P Pogrebnyak

We actually passed theball around really well and, at half time anyway, things looked great

Injuries/rank bad form don't allow the same team
So I would go

Frederick
Shorey
Cummings
Mariappa
Pearce
Macanuff
Leigertwood
Guthrie
Tabb
McCleary
Pog
