Have just found a well considered article on the relegation battle. The guy looks at everybody in the bottom half, still predicts we'll go down, but stresses the important of continuing the momentum from WBA into the next game.

you mean, just to be clear, it's (on balance) preferable that we get a result at Newcastle :?:

LoyalRoyal22 I sense this weekend is massive to be honest. A win could give us some real momentum and belief

I'd take a draw

It really is though. For me we have to win. The feel good I experienced on Saturday must be a hundred times stronger in the squad, they should come out bouncing!!

Skimmed it and can see it's a total waste of time (like everyone's opinion of whats going to happen in a future series of football games)

These sort of predictions are pretty futile. First one put to the test was Chelsea v Southampton. Prediction 3-0. Result 2-2.

cmonurz I think the calculation with 10 games to go will look something like "probably need to win 6 or 7 of these games to stay up oh well at least we haven't got United, Arsenal, Liverpool and City to play, oh fcuk. arshavin, don't do that again, you're injured for four weeks'.

don't tell me you've got away with this one?

Got away with what?

Slow day?

If you're looking forward to playing Liverpool then fair do's, I think they are going to annihilate us.

How about, we are unlikely to need 7 wins with 16 games left so how will we need them with 10? Are we going into administration in the near future or is grasping at straws a hobby of yours :|

Meaning the guesstimate is only one point off.

The best-guess set of results were not meant to be predictions
but a rough measure of the total number of points to be won
between then and "ten games left".

Big deal that Saints got a point at Chelsea. They were looking like losing 0-3
and it turned round. It happens. RFC 3-2 WBA, anyone.

What matters is will Saints get more than predicted, less, or as predicted (over their 7 games, now 6)

Wtf are you going on about?

I don't think we're going to win many games in the coming weeks (or at all), so I expect us to need 6 or 7 wins from our final 10 games.

No-one knows how many points we're going to need, it was just a throwaway remark, we're going to need to win a lot of our remaining games. No idea what you mean about a 'previous opinion'. Suggest you calm down dear, I've no idea what you're arguing here.

So, by the time we've played another 6 games, in your opinion, we will need more points than we are likely to need now :|

I think we need say 38 points, to stay up, which will entail 6 or 7 wins.

I am not convinced we are going to win many, or any of our games left this season. So with 10 games left, and requiring say 38 points to stay up, imho we are still going to need to find 6 or 7 wins from those 10 games in order to do so.

Keep on :| ing. This is really not difficult to understand.

So, even with your inflated (based on what exactly) view of the number of points we are likely to need, you think we'll get just 1 of them in the next 6 games :|

Yes.

We've only won 2 games all season.

My view is based on the teams around us, bar Villa, enjoying better form than at the start of the season.

Everton, West Ham, West Brom

Would you like to guess how many draws we've accumulated?

We've just got 7pts from our last 4 games and 2 of the teams we've beaten were, and still are, in the top half.

But hey! RFC has never been short of wrist slitters in it's fan base.

You've really created this out of nothing. So I don't think we're going to win many games? Big deal.

Well that's hardly surprising, I guess, if you've already forgotten one of three we've won so far :P

Nurse!!!!!!!!

The average number of points required to survive over the last 12 years is 37. To get 37 points, we need to 21 more points, the easiest way to do (and calculate) that, is to win 7 games. The lowest number of points to survive over the smae period before is about 32. So that would still need 5 wins and a draw.

I think Cmonurz is overly pessimistic about our chances of picking up points in the next six games, but the idea that we are likely to need to win 7 games (or some combination of results that gains the equivalent points) to have a good chance of surviving is a sound one.
