Tony Le Mesmer Remember David Byrne on the right wing in 91/92? He was quite good. And David Lee in midfield was even better. We had so many loan signings in 1991/92.

David Lee was much much better than us and anyone who we played against in that period. Scored some great goals.

floyd__streete David McDonald – unremarkable right back signed from Spurs during the days when McGhee had more loans than the Greek government. Literally no-one else I have spoken to remembers this man, so it is possible that I have dreamed him up. I’d be thrilled if someone wanted to get in touch via DM perhaps and we could share some memories, perhaps set up a ‘I paid money to watch David McDonald Support Group’.

I remember him well floyd. He had a really odd habit of marking his man the wrong side when defending an opposition throw. IIRC he also looked like someone from the 40s or 50s with his slicked black hair.

Was rubbish too.

floyd__streete Graham Kemp – wasn’t he some sort of estate agent or something who also drove the youth team’s minibus? Played for Theale in the Reading Sunday League IIRC and McGhee was so desperate for players he sat on the subs bench for a couple of 1st team games.

Pretty sure he came up through the ranks. He was also at Slough for quite a while I think and is still pretty local and definitely played Sunday league for a while and Theale sounds about right (funnily enough with Giametti the subbed sub mentioned on this thread as well).

Darren McCance. Home grown youth team player played centre back away at Brighton and looked ok never to be seen again.

Around that time I remember David Bass. He came in to the Rendezvous after a game once when me and a few chums were already a few Kronenbourgs down the track and playing on the pool table. He sauntered over giving it the big un, don't you know who I am, my jeans cost more than you earn in a week, etc. He didn't stick around for long, in the Rendezvous or RFC.

Lee Sandford - Came on loan from Sheff Utd for a while in the mid 90's. Did nothing then scored the goal for them that knocked us out of the cup in the 5th (?) round a year or two later.

Neale Cooper - One time european winner with Dundee Utd. Came here on loan, I think Mcgee was just helping out an old mate.

Kenny Brown - On loan from West Sham, was our best player by a mile went back to them and was never heard of again.

I remember getting excited about Neale Cooper. That was until I saw him play and realised he couldn't even pass water.

Saw Kenny Brown a couple of years after his spell with us playing for Barry Town away at Bangor City in the league of wales. He had found his level.

My sad memory can offer you this snippet....

Made his debut at Fulham having signed on loan late on the friday.

Remember Reading fans having to ask the players who he was when they were warming up.

one of the players - can't remember who exactly said "noone knows who he is. he's not even been introduced to us. i think he's ACTUALLY playing though."

That is LOL

I only know Micheal Thorp because on one edition of Championship Manager, the first thing I would do would give him a free transfer.

I remember David McDonald, away to Port Vale Grand National day, we lost 3-1, he was beyond chronic.
My one and only away trip on the supporters coach, memorable for getting a coke for 10p in the pub we stopped in on the way home.
1993 it was as remember National being cancelled, rounding off a truly vile day

I am sure it was David McDonald who missed a penalty in the shoot out against Exeter city in the auto glass trophy match at st James park, about 1991 or 1992.. If memory serves me right he looked totally disinterested as he was going back to spurs the next day..

Other classic names? Gary Ferguson? Linden Jones (you've been gone too long).. Mick Conroy? Uwe Hartenburger? Andy Gray?

Spud Gun Robert Codner anyone?!?!

Did you know, when Graham Loader was trying to come up with a name for his RFC website the name 'Robert Codner Anyone?' came a close second to HNA?

Tony Le Mesmer Remember David Byrne on the right wing in 91/92? He was quite good.

He was on loan from Talking Heads IIRC.

How in all that is Holy and the new fascist Pontificate's name can we get three pages in and not mention .... Paul (?) Giacometti (sp?)? Those hundred or so hardy souls who made it to Valley Parade for an evening fixture against the Bantams - and a few beverages in an iconic boozer pre-match - will shirley remember the slight kid that McGhee brought on as a 70th min sub, only to pull him off (ooo-errrr) after ten minutes?

One of my first favourite players was Tony Rougier. Can't remember why I liked him so much, definitely wasn't for his scoring record.

He was Mass Sarr squared – in that he showed those flashes of logic-defying brilliance every few games. You’d have a month of Rougier trotting around the pitch like a lacrosse horse, and then in the space of two games, he’d score 3 goals, set up another 2, and leave full-backs on their knees crying for mummy.

And you couldn't forget his finest hour against Oxford at home in the pissing rain to win the game 4-3 when we were 3-2 down going in to the last ten or so minutes

EDIT: Here's the link: http://www.royals.org/matdoc/281000.html

Sadly the report doesn't seem to do it justice as to how I remember it (the final goal)
