There's very little between the two in my opinion. If both are willing to take the job, then I'd probably go for Adkins.

I think it would be an incredibly tough decision for Poyet to make right now. That's why i'm half expecting him to announce that he's staying put later today.

Surely it's down to whether Mr. Poyet thinks he can take Brighton up this season or next?

If they stay down, our budget will be more than Brighton's (surely), with higher expectations/more ambition - so he's more likely to get promotion with us - unless of course, he thinks next season will be their year.

Adkins was given a shot at the prem with a big budget and didn't do much better than us.

Poyet has more of a flair. Having been to quite a few Brighton games I've got great respect for Poyet.

Brighton fans would be devasted if he left, didn't see many saints fans crying a river over Adkins. They moved on pretty quickly.

I doubt Brighton will get promoted this season. They have sunk a lot into the stadium and im not entirely sure what the transfer budget for them would be next season.

Feels like a bit of a shitty trick trying to lure Poyet here at this stage tbh.

Jano And you think we wont be doing the same next season? There is only one reason Poyet would join us, and that's because he's been promised even more money to spend.

That is an assumption, not a fact

Seriously? I do wonder about some fans views on Reading.

Whoever comes in will have to completely change the side and the way it plays to give Anton what he wants, and it's not just on the field as we have no coaching set up of note for the first team, whereas everything will be in place at Brighton - including the bigger stadium. There is only one reason Poyet would leave that behind and join us and that's if he is being given massive assurances about what will be available to him in the future.

How is our ambition greater than Brighton's?

What has Anton told you that he wants?

Said it on the other thread

My friend is on the backroom staff at Brighton. Works with Gus everyday. It's not true that we want him or that he is considering it.

Come on, it doesn't take a rocket scientist, the guy didn't buy the club to watch the football we have been playing this season, or to see us struggling in the premiership, and that's obviously why McDermott was let go

Remember this is the guy who said he wants us playing in Europe in the not too distant future.

Poyet for me.

I've been very impressed by his career so far (Swindon, Leeds, Spurs, Brighton have all improved whilst he was there) and the way he carries himself. His links and knowledge at the very top are likely to be better than Adkins and I do like the way his teams have played.

He was a cracking player and just has a style about him that I think would actually help the club moving forward.

The only real downside is how long term his commitment would be but if he does well enough to attract big clubs to come and pinch him from us then I'll happily enjoy the ride.

Odds on it'll be Poyet then.....

Of the two Poyet for me, but rather hoping the currently bs story about Enrique actually turns out to be true.

What was our budget last time we went down? About minus £5m wasn't it?

Poyet - but my concern is he will only be here a short while if he's a success, and then jump ship for a bigger job. The media love him, and it wont be long before he's offered something much bigger.

Adkins - he would be more long term IMO, and also plays a good brand of football.

Flip a coin, I'll take either. But I can see us looking for a new manager in 2 years time when Poyet jumps ship to Spurs…

He's already been at Spurs and failed miserably (When Ramos was there he was pretty much manager).

If we rank them on last season, we can go for the 2nd or 7th best Championship managers. But given we just got rid of the 1st, we probably shouldn't use that measurement.

Both have had experience of signing a lot of expensive players, but the Spanish-speaking Poyet, as a well known ex-pro, is probably who we want to get to the next level.

Although, if Anton genuinely is ruthless, the new man is 8 games from the sack in any case, so perhaps we should start with Adkins!

Like players, I don't think you judge managers just on results but on HOW they get them and how they work with what they've got.

If McDermott had got us to 16th place this season I'd say he'd have done a better job than Pardew getting Newcastle to 13th, or Wenger getting Arsenal to 5th.

grey_squirrel Adkins >>>>>>> Poyet

Don't understand all that chatter that Poyet can attract a better class of player. Where's the evidence?

Plus really do not see how Poyet would think we are a better proposition than BHA. They seem to have all the necessities now in place for development and progression.

Hi there. Brighton fan here.
I doubt many managers would've been able to attract such established players as Vicente, Wayne Bridge, Matty Upson and PIG to Brighton. Gus is very persuasive!

Much as I still disagree with the sacking of Brian, I would much prefer Poyet to any of the other prospective available candidates. In truth I did not think there was a chance he would leave Brighton - with them in contention - but he is clearly ambitious and if Anton will provide a lot of money for new players, it might swing the deal.

I watched Brighton v Reading at the Amex at the end of last season and in pre season and both times I was very impressed by their style of play. Reading did a smash and grab at the end of last season - one free kick by Harte - but were totally outplayed by Brighton. Pre season was a similar story.

If Anton backs Poyet, then he is one manager who could change the Reading style for the better.

To me he is a much better choice than Adkins.
