Anfield Kopite That was genuinely one of the best goalkeeping performances I have ever seen. Well done Pepe Reina. :D
Seriously your 'keeper was brilliant today.

Sat in the North West area of the stadium and had a perfect view of McAnuff's late penalty shout. Was definitely not a penalty. He made no attempt to cross it or do anything with it (perhaps due to tiredness) and instead just made a blatant dive and flicked his leg in to the defender, myself and everyone around me shouted at him to get up and he looked pretty sheepish about his antics. In his tiredness he also wasted a good move minutes earlier, so for these two let downs at the end I couldn't rate him any more than a 7, definitely not MOTM as some seem to think.
Thought I'd mention it as from the sounds of it many in the East Stand believed it might have been a penalty.

Also, wasn't it ironic that on the anniversary of Hillsborough stewards had to stop all the Liverpool fans from cramming into the front of their stand?

In general was a great performance. New tactics meant we gave the ball away a bit but not really any more than under the old tactics.

Pog - Like Doyle, Long and Roberts before him looked better with Hunt alongside him. Held it up well without the service. 7

Excellent point.

I posted this in the game thread so I'll put it here now
Royal Lady That was a fantastic game - mcCarthy was brilliant and should be player of season based on the games he's played! Carrico looked a bit slow but his tackling and passing were sublime. Couldn't single out one player today for not pulling their weight. First half we looked very scared but second half was one of most enjoyable games I can remember. We didn't give up and Liverpool got rattled. Might even get something at Norwich if we can play 90 mins like the second half. Well done NA and the lads. We deserved that point. But how come those utter idiots managed to bring in flares and firecrackers? Made me jump out of my skin each time and even tho all seemed to come from same area, stewards did nothing to try and stop it. And those 'Ding dong' flags were inflammatory and ruined what should have been a respectful day for the 96.

Ian Royal On a wave of optimism I'll chuck this out there.

As a whole we were empty shirts first half with the exception of McCarthy. Much better second half. Basically, just take one mark off everyone except Karacan for the first half performance. Oh and 2 off Guthrie.

McCarthy - 10 MotM. Not much to say really. Not only did he pull off save after save, his positioning was impecable and he held shots he had no real right to keep out.
Gunter - 6 poor first half better second.
Kelly - 7 ok first half, one very good cross, decent second
Mariappa - 6 not great, but not bad.
Morrison - 6 same as Maps, both gave the ball away too much.
Karacan - 4 utterly anonymous
Guthrie - 7 terrible passing first half, much much better when Carrico came on
McCleary - 6 ok, some poor decision making and I don't feel he really threatened much
McAnuff - 7.5 poor decisions for both penalty shouts (neither were) but a (limited) threat all game and so very nearly scored
Hunt - 6 worked hard
Pog - 6 worked hard

Carrico - 8 thank fuk he's fit.
Blackman - 6 some poor decision making and crossing
ALF - 6 Liverpool came back into it so he got no service

My goodness. We almost looked like we had some belief and quality second half. Polish it a little and we might win a couple of games. Carrico and McCarthy, first names on the team sheet from now on.

Guthrie, terrible passing in the first half? You do realise he was the player wearing '20' on his shirt?!

If you do, then maybe you are judging him on one cross-field ball out to our right that had the Guthrie haters howling in anger as it was intercepted by a Liverpool player breaking forward. However, truth was that both Gunter on the right and Morrison inside him were well placed to move onto the pass, which was played into acres of space, had they been awake!

TBF the first part of the comment is entirely true (backing up Adkins' comments last week about distribution) and is something he will have to improve before anyone splashes out serious money on him (maybe that helps us). However, the second part is clearly a wind up!

RB, that particular pass was shite, but it's forgivable when a) Guthrie had turned Lucas brilliantly in midfield to win it and most importantly b) as Adkins says, we should be patient with the team trying to play a passing game.

Tbf there was a lot less grumbling today in the stands when things went awry.

Nice to see your fans setting their usual caveman standards at the game today. Now this game is over with & we've mourned the 96 can you fcuk off?

Fair comment. I wasn't at the game. I know a lot planned to sing anti Thatcher songs. Despite making my feelings known towards that women in a thread on AE I wouldn't have joined in. Also I have given my word that I will be gone as soon as I am knocked out of Frimmers music quiz on AE.

TBH, I'll be sad to see you go. It's only the morons who can't engage in a decent debate with opposing fans and therefore don't welcome their comments.

Much much better after last week's pathetic performance.

McCarthy 11 Work of the devil !
Gunter 7 Apart from one awful pass I thought he was very good-must be the fittest player at the club.
Kelly 6 Poor bloke he just isn't a LB but does the best he can-serious mistake by McD in not getting an LB in January.
Marriappa 7 Started badly and a couple of his headers were a bit weak-but did do a lot of covering.
Morrison 5 Is he good enough to play for Reading ? he is still young and may come on to his game-after all this is his first real big season.
Karracan 6 Worked his socks off as usual-but created zilch-not really a Prem player. But you could say that about most of the team.
Guthrie 6 Worked hard to be fair-and now realizes his career as a top player hangs in the balance. For every bad pass -there was however a good one. Has it in him.
McCleery 7 His best game for Reading-although how fit is he ?
Hunt 5 Disappeared after a good start. Very limited, poor first touch, but good in the air.
Pog 5 The only player able to match Liverpool physically -but just not sharp enough all round.Puts in a shift though.
McAnuff 6 Gave it everything-out on his feet at the end. Again questions about his fitness level. If he had had some gas left in him might have created something in the box right at the end.
Carrico 7 Neat and tidy-but does he have an engine ?
Blackman 5 Still big questions about him-but deserves more time next year.
Alf Never really given a chance should have been on earlier.

Claatter I have seen worse refs this season-but messed up a couple of times-particularly a pull on a shirt which gave Liverpool a chance. Lino on the East Stand was awful.

Liverpool At times looked a class act-but the twenty minutes they had at the start of the second half showed why they are way off top four.

Liverpool fans made a great noise, the noisiest away fans we have had all season-but once again a minority of fans let them down.

It really peed me off the way that Ady Williams kept harping on about us being 'lucky to get a point'! Lucky is when the ref wrongly disallows a goal that would have given the win to the opposing team. There was nothing lucky about today's point. It was the team that won it. Yes, McCarthy kept them out by playing brilliantly but that was brilliance not luck. Likewise lots of our players blocked shots etc. - that was commitment and good defending, not luck!

Ady, being lucky is not getting sent off when you used to accidentally trip over, bringing down a forward in the process and preventing a goal! Or maybe that was a great bit of deception (for which we loved you) rather than luck!

There was actually a team to get behind today, well done on a very hard earned point. McCarthy had an absolute belter of a game and they all did their upmost to try and get a result. Not overly impressed with the giant Russian traffic cone we've got up front but you can't really knock any of them for their efforts today.

As an aside, I thought van Persie was by far the best forward in the league towards to beginning of the season. Having seen Suarez though, I think he's the leading Premier League forward when you consider not only his goals but also his classier all round game, could defo see him moving elsewhere for CL football. Just as well we had our class act on top form today to deny him :D
