Less than I thought it would be. However the wages on that pile of past it mercenaries, underachievers and sicknotes must be obscene.

Strikers:
Johnson - always crocked, old
Mackie - A trier, nothing more
Remy - Looks a good finisher, probably on big wages. Will be offloaded for sure.
Zamora - old, crocked. Could do well in the Champ tbf if he stays.
Bothroyd - Crap IMO, terrible goalscoring record apart from one season @ Cardiff
Campbell - Getting on a bit, good Champ player.
Cisse - Old, headcase, won't play in the Champ.

There is so much overpaid deadwood at their end of their careers in the squad, hope they are stuck with them for years as they coast out their bloated paychecks in perpetuity

How long is simple.

Last season as we celebrated promotion - not long enoough
This season as we go down - far too long

Feel free to copy and paste for future seasons

Yeah, which is why it's good we didn't spend like QPR (and last) this season. QPR could be in a lot of trouble when they go down.

TOTAL COST OF SQUAD COMPARED TO CURRENT LEAGUE POSITION
1 - Man City - £347,300,000 1 POSITION DIFFERENT
2 - Chelsea - £331,575,000 2 POSITIONS DIFFERENT
3 - Man Utd - £297,350,000 2 POSITIONS DIFFERENT
4 - Liverpool - £182,852,500 3 POSITIONS DIFFERENT
5 - Arsenal - £172,542,000 2 POSITIONS DIFFERENT
6 - Tottenham - £138,950,000 1 POSITION DIFFERENT

19 - Norwich - £23,350,000 6 POSITIONS DIFFERENT
20 - READING - £13,320,000 0 POSITIONS DIFFERENT

No real surprises there. If you divide the total cost of all the squads in the league by the amount of points won by all clubs (extrapolated to 38 games rather than 34 currently played) you'd see that each point costs an average of £2,100,000. Say you need 40 points to avoid relegation and that's a total of £84,700,000.

Agreed - there are no major surprises there.

With your workings out of £2.1m per point - we've saved £37.08m in reaching 24 points. :D

It's evident that you if you spend huge amounts of money, you'll be near the top. But, the five sides above us on this table have done at better - five places higher is the lowest. From 8th to 19th - it's close. It's what you send the money on. And if you spend nearly nothing - you'll be bottom.

Not that it makes a great deal of difference, but if you're going to say the likes of Man City or Swansea only have 24 and 22 players respectively, then you'd need to exclude 20 of our squad who aren't really in our first team squad and are bringing that average down by a good 30 to 50% (total guesstimate).

It's not really a shock to see that our squad, assembled on the cheap and having only been in the Premier League for the shortest amount if time, comes out as the lowest costing squad!

If I bring the total down to 20 for Reading it's still only £666k per player (in fact we would need 14 players bought for £13.32m to be higher than Norwich).

No real surprises there.

You have teams finishing 9 places out of a possible 20 away from their predicted position and the correlation is weak.

I suspect wage spend would fit the data better, we're closer to our rivals in that regard because of the players we signed on free transfers and big wages (Pogrebnyak, Guthrie, Roberts, now Federici).
