Speaking regarding Alex Pearce, Nick said, “We have been speaking to him with regards to his contract throughout the season. Unfortunately, up until this point we have not managed to find a deal which is mutually acceptable to both parties. I am keen however, now the season has finished, to have a further conversation with Alex and his representatives to understand his thoughts and give him the club’s final position.”

Negotiating tactic. He wanted to be able to say, when someone asked him why they should be paying £10m for Matt Mills, that there's no 'y' in Nick Hammond.

Stuart Taylor offered a new contract. Might suggest another senior goalkeeper won't be staying.

I don't see the point in Stuart Taylor staying unless we are letting Andersen leave. That's a shame if so. I'm glad though that Jo Mills is off. We need someone a lot better than that next season.

In fact, we now need two left-backs, unless Kelly is now seen as a left-back, then we need one more.

Kelly really is not a left back at the higher levels of the game.

Goalkeeper wise, we really do have to make decisions on our keepers and to be honest I would be looking at making McCarthy the no. 1 and keeping Taylor as the no. 2. Feds and Andersen should be sold to further their careers elsewhere. Henly is also thought have a promising future so he should be the no. 3 and put out on loan.

Kelly has shown in the last few weeks that he is adequate at LB in the prem so he will be absolutely fine in the Champ. If we buy a first choice LB then we don't need another as we will have enough cover

Really good news that Bignall is still here. I was worried we might get rid of him this time. Probably just as well we gave him the 10 year contract in 2008. Seriously I feel sorry for the lad - two years of injury - but how long do you give a player to recover?

Apart from that none of the 10 released were surprises.

I guess the stories about Roberts getting an extension were true which will be a waste of money if the rumours about him never playing again are true.

Now we have no left backs at the club - although as others have said Kelly is more than adequate at Championship level.

Overall the remaining players look a stronger group than the one that won the Championship a year or so ago, but I assume there will be more departures to come like Pearce. And how many can adapt to a passing style is also questionable.
