Royal Lady If he goes to Derby I'll be bloody glad I didn't renew my ST - any news on Karacan? Is he going to agree new contract? We need 2 center backs - one to replace Pearce, one as cover for hector and new CB as I can't see Anton playing many if any games. At least two keepers, at least one more striker, 2 midfielders - any thoughts of promotion next season look like pie in the sky to me

Should be announced tomorrow I.e. Pearce, not heard anything on Karacan.

Rebuild continuing. Exciting times.

Is that an announcement of him going or staying do you know?

Ian Royal Only experienced CB we have (like Ferdinand will participate). Already need a left back, maybe a right back, at least one striker and a left winger. We really don't need to be searching for a quality and experienced CB too.

+1 . Anyone thinking we could or would replace Pearce with someone equal to or better than him is deluded.

yep - especially on the wages we'll be offering - if Pearce left for money we're not going to get anyone of any note in. Maybe he heard what Anton was on

Anyone expeciting more than mid-table at best next season is deluded, and there are many. There needs to be a lot of changes to get the wage bill down further, so just accept it and back what will be an experimental team for a season or two, and hopefully in a few years we'll have the infrastructure again to challenge for promotion.

FWIW I'm glad Pearce and Feds are gone (Pearce sounds like it wont be long), and I'm not bothered about Karacan either. I just want a team that looks hungry again and goes out there and gives their best every week. As long as we don't go down next season I'll take that, but then I'd want to see progress the following season.

Pearce was one of the hungriest, never lacked passion. It'll be a bad thing if/when he goes. He's a + defender at this level.

He's average at this level. He's commited and will stick his head in, but he can't pass for toffee, looks uncomfortable in possession, and his heading is questionable as well. His lack of pace really hurts us when he's faced with anyone that will run at him. He's not that big a miss IMO. But each to their own.

As I've said on another thread, losing Pearce just seems like a high risk strategy to me. Sure, we may find his equal or better for less money but the odds must be against it - particularly when our "success" in the transfer market is factored in.

Also, as has been remarked several times on here, there's a fairly strong correlation between wage bill and league placing with clubs with lower bills tending to finish lower down the table. If we're planning on making big reductions to our wage bill then fans shouldn't really be expecting to finish any higher in the table than where we did this year.

The reality is that Pearce has been overpaid in relation to his ability for the past couple of years. We've now offered him a contract more in line with his relative quality and he's probably not overly keen on a 40% wage cut. Derby are chucking money around, see a decent defender at a good age with plenty of experience, and have obviously decided to offer something close to his previous deal.

We shouldn't have a go at the club for offering only what we believe a player is worth. The mistake was putting him on silly money a couple of years ago that we'd never be able to match.

He'll leave a gap to fill, but it won't be impossible to replace him.

Isn't another high risk strategy finishing very close to the relegation zone then signing up the players that were not good enough to further seasons and expecting a better outcome?

Last season I'd of taken pretty well any CB from the opposition rather than Pearce. Even Bikey played a blinder against us.

I really don't think he has the talent, he's slow but has decent anticipation but he's scared of the ball. I cringe every time there's one striker and 4 defenders and Pearce whacks the ball into touch when under no pressure simply because he hasn't got the ball skills to control it. His best asset is heading but his view of a good header is how far he can get the ball away rather than to nod it to a colleague.

I won't miss him.

Get rid, he's turgid. Give it a month into next season and he'll be getting the same dogs abuse Church and Morrison got on their respective fan boards.

Royal Ginger If Pearce is having a good game no-one notices him because he's simple and effective. If you look back at the player ratings we've given him in BFTG threads i'd be surprised if we didn't find that he regularly featured as the 2nd or 3rd best player on the pitch. Sure he's had a couple of crap games, but i can't see any way we'd be able to replace him with similar or better quality.

Really? How do you expect us to 'do better' without spending some real cash? Pearce is a quality defender for this level. We are in serious trouble, assuming he isn't properly replaced,

We have good youngsters coming through Cooper , Sweeney, also there's the lad who was on loan at Basingstoke for the 2nd half of the season. Add to that we can pick up good freebies or Chelsea loanees. Don't panic-be happy

In the games I saw last season I thought Cooper looked decent (the Brum away nightmare aside). If/when Pearce goes then he would seem to be the natural replacement.

And as much as I like Jem, I think the club have Kuhl lined up to replace him as well.
