Nameless 5/10 seems pretty rubbishy in any marking scheme (purely my opinion !)
Mathematically it's less than half marks and I've always seen 6 as a 'standard' score going up for better than the norm and down for worse.

If you allow for scores of 0/10 then 5 is the exact midpoint of the scale - 5 ratings above and below.

But if you go 1-10 then 5.5 is the mid point.
Which is another example where we need some kind of official rating. Surely FIFA should be sorting this rather than simply making millions for Sepp.

NewCorkSeth Just to defend my marking out of ten it might look harsh but only if you don't see a scoring of 5 as an average performance.

6 would be above average which is what many of our players have been (including several defenders) I would argue that the main reason were conceding so few shot is that were defending from the front in a lot of games. Our mids have been crucial in breaking up play so in my head our defensive solidity is down to the team working as a unit.

If a scoring of 10 is the highest mark available do you really think anyone deserves a 9? A nine is like scoring a hat trick every game.. Or whatever the midfield equivalent is..

Maybe so, but that doesn't explain why Williams and Quinn have the same rating as Vydra and HRK

Maybe we need a poll 1-10 or 0-10?

I use 1-10 personally so my minimum expectation for a player is achieving a 6. 7 is good, 8 is great, 9 is fantastic and 10 is mindblowing.
5 mediocre, 4 poor, 3 terrible and 2/1 are so horrific as to virtually never be relevant. except for Pauls Brooker and Brayson.

What is it with Paul's ?
I used a scale of 1-2 to mark Paul Holsgrove's performances but found not enough scope at the lower end.

When was the last good Paul we had?

I suddenly can't think of any Pauls....

Paul Cannoville... surely there's been a good one since then.

Paul Bodin.....

And if we did have any good Pauls there is no way I'd make them captain.
Disaster waiting to happen.....

How could i forget the only player in rfc history to be sent off incorrectly and have none of his team mates protest.

I would explain that by pointing out a rating of 0-10 is not efficient in separating players who are close in ratings. I propose a 0-100 rating from now on.

Or just simplify it and go with 3 ratings
A- pretty damn good
B- ok
C- rubbish

Do we need any more subtlety than that ? Can we really tell a 3 from a 4 or a 7 from an 8 ?

I take it you aren't including Paul McShane?
