Nameless Not sure being stand in captain will have been a significant thing in his consideration !

He wasn't stand in captain though - when Clarke joined he made him captain

The OS states that he was captain in the absence of Jem, who captained the team when he came back late in the season. Pearce just took over from Gunter as the person with the armband on match day.

As well as being brought straight back into the side by Clarke, he was also handed the captain’s armband.

“To get that armband was a very proud moment,” he said. "When you get told it’s a massive honour.

“I think I probably feel it more because I’ve been here for so long.

“I am enjoying the role but I don’t think you can put my improvement all on that.

“You need to put it on the way we are playing as a team. That is helping me massively.”

Thanks, I knew I was right !

You've just misinterpreted the significance of wearing the armband. Someone has to wear it on the pitch, doesn't mean they are doing it long term.

Bit of a diversion though. It won't be something Pearce is moping about as he counts his cash....

Clarke made him captain.....you said he was stand in captain....he wasn't

You said he didn't care about that, the quote showed he did

Jem left - if Pearce stayed he would still be captain

As soon as Jem came back into the team, he took the armband again.

He was always club captain, and therefore would wear the armband when he played.

Pearce wore it when Jem didn't play. Christ.

Clarke had to make someone captain, it's obligatory. But Jem was the official captain and as soon as he came back he took the armband again. So clearly Pearce was chosen to captain the side because Jem was injured. You seem to be struggling with a simple concept !
I also didn't say Pearce didn't care about being captain, I said that the fact that he was no longer captain would be outweighed by the fact that he's earning more money now.

Good test for Reading, will give us a clearer idea of how good (or not) the team currently is.

I'll take RFC to sneak a win 2-1 (Sa, Vydra) based on home advantage and a buoyant morale.

Nope you're wrong

Jem only got that armband cos of the Rory Royals project or whatever it was called.....the game after (against Bournemouth, Karacan started but Pearce was captain)

Yes he was involved as he was captain when it all started.....when Clarke came in, he gave the captaincy to Pearce

Bizarre that on July 9th an article on the OS describes Jem as the Reading captain, and on the same date another article refers to Pearce as having captained the team while Jem was absent. Have you contacted the club to point out their error ?

Strange that the press conference before the Arsenal game was attended by "Reading manager Steve Clarke and captain Alex Pearce"

Just admit you're wrong and we can move on

Sorry, I hadn't bargained on TBM being so thick !

Let's leave it that former occasional Reading captain Alex Pearce is probably not too upset that whilst his initial weeks at Derby have been a bit iffy playing wise his bank balance is looking healthier than ever.

3-1 to Reading tonight, if predictions are still acceptable on this thread. Sa(2) and Vydra.

Now, now, you are probably both right, but to help settle this lets have a poll!
I am sure in this PC and Jeremy Corbyn world a poll of asking the well informed and ill-informed will help to resolve this difference.

Pearce to get a place on the bench as Baird is injured, his inside Reading knowledge is bound to be a help to Derby as he knows Gunts, Obita, Norwood and Blackman from last season, he might even get a chance to chat with others in the stands like HRK, and Cox, while Williams, McCleary and Hector sit on the opposite bench. Mackie, Feds and Jem might tune in as they sit on different team benches. And of cos Pav tries to access Reading FC Player from his home nation. Mackie

So most of last seasons team are not current first team selections where ever they might now be.

Nameless Sorry TBM.

That's ok m9

But how do you know Pearce is on more money at Derby than he was on here?

Who cares what Pearce is on at a different club?
It is an issue for him and Derby.

He served Reading when with the club and the club paid him an agreed amount, until his last contract ran out and then the club and Pearce could not agree a new contract so he moved on to a new club.

That's appalling quote abuse TBM !!!

It's the law of the land that footballer's wages go up constantly.

Just as an interesting aside, had Pearce stayed here he would not have been captain, not been playing (or even on the bench) and on less money than last season. So he's ahead on one thing at Derby.....

WoodleyRoyal

+1

time tunnel was a more interesting programme than ramblings about Pearce being captain and his earnings. Especially as he may not play or be on Derby's bench tonight.
