bobby1413 I think it's clear now this deal is sadly off the table.

Think you're right, he will be going off to another club

Not sure who came up with this £2.5m figure. He didn't feature for Leicester last season at all, and was loaned into a relegation scrap in the Championship. He hasn't been given a squad number, and he's been told he can leave. £2.5m seems some-what bizarre. I think we're just being our typical tight selves on this one - as we were believed to have been with Coker.

"I see Reading have just received £6m from transfers"
"And they're only offering £1m for Moore?"
"Yeah"
"Bump that up"
"But we can't justify it"
"Do it in add-ons, tell them he's young, english, experienced in the division and other clubs want him"

That is often the way, but in the same breath so is looking in from the outside and seeing our policy of signings free's this window. They can see we haven't got a lot to play with. In any case, £2.5m is still a figure plucked out of the air by supporters. Let's just see what happens.

Someone will have to explain the 'typical tight selves' comment.
Presumably it comes from the sort of person who only cares how much is paid for a player, not how good they are.
I can never understand the sort of fan who wants his club to blow millions on a player rather than unearth good players for nothing.
Give me Shorey, Doyle, Hector or Hahneman over Fae, Halford or Lita any day !

The club have been very open about our plan to operate in the free transfer market this summer. They've also made it clear budgets need to be cut and we need to trim the fat. The Coker offers, if true, were way off the mark; almost disrespectful. It seems for this window, when money is to swap hands, we are being as prudent as we possibly can be, and the Moore deal is no different.

Fact is that we will probably miss out on our targets. We need a oxf*rd CB.

Err, so you think £2.5m is too much, but we're being tight for not paying it?

Slightly harsh on Lita for me, thought he wasn't too bad value at £1m.

Had a good impact in the first 2 seasons for us. 1 in 4 isn't too bad.

If the club can't compromise on a value with Leicester then it's absolutely right that we don't cave in and give them what they want, I'm sure we have other potential targets lined up and if need be, we could potentially pursue a 6 month loan deal and re-enter the market for a defender in the January window. The amount of money we have coming in from player sales should have no bearing on what clubs expect us to pay, if they think it should then they can move on.

'Disrespectful' the most pointless word used when talking about transfers.

How can it have anything to do with 'respect' ?

nothing wrong with a lowish tentative opening bid. Other side can reject it and you go from there. Given that every fee is based on what the parties will agree on there can be no such thing as a 'disrespectful' bid, just an unsuccessful one.

Fact is we've got 8 of our targets !

Agree a centre back would be good though. But not at any price.
We could bring Anton back for nothing....

I doubt many of them were first choice though.

That is such an easy throwaway comment. How do you know that they weren't first choice? Maybe they were.

Would suggest that we have got nearly all our targets so far; Swift was turning down other clubs right up to him signing, we got Meite ahead of some big names, Harriott was being chased by Ipswich.

I doubt any club signs many of their 'first choices'
We have no idea how it works but I would think a manager has several targets for each gap in his squad and works on a number at a time and sees which ones he can get. You'd be daft to spend 3 weeks going after the first name , failing then starting after number 2.
The point remains we've signed 8 players, probably half of them look solid, half slight gambles. Decent enough hit rate and no evidence to back up the idea that we have missed many targeted players.

Points taken, I'll just pissed be pissed off if we miss out on signing a position needed and then reel out the same "we're happy with what we've got" bollocks.

Agree, I think everyone sees the need for a player there. The difficulty will be getting the right player at the right price. Getting the wrong player at a good price is probably no better than signing no one. How far do we stretch the budget for the right players one I certainly can't call. 2.5 million for a player who is actively unwanted by his club does seem very steep.

Absolutely not. On his way out and not the character we need.

Lescott had his chance a decade ago and blew it. We should not give him a second one.
I'd rather Jaap got his boots on....
