Dirk Gently Shane Long's miss in the closing minutes of the away match at Birmingham in December 2007. Just in front of goal, and with plenty of time, and space, he tried a spectacular scisor kick when a volley, a diving header or even a well-placed knee would have had more chance of going in.
It might not be worst in terms of egregiousness, but in terms of impact I can't think of another just as bad. Turning that 1-1 draw into a win would have kept us up, and the whole history of Reading FC would be immeasurably better.

From Despair To Where? Not a Reading fc miss but on this day 24 years ago, Steve Stone wrote himself into legend.

Hemenbruff Royal In terms of Reading history the play off final penalty miss v Bolton must be the worst.
