I think scorer / assister independent is better as it gives a chance for assist points even if your named scorer's not on the pitch.
For this round, with correct assist / correct half, 26 for me (think you gave me 2 for wrong half)?

I'm easy either way.

Just want a few opinions.

Snowball Folks, mea culpa, but when I added "assists" to the goal-scorer
I wasn't clear whether the assist REQUIRED the correct goal-scorer
to get the double marks.

So yesterday the first Reading score was EHIBxx and the assist was from Savage

So if you got the scorer (EHIBxx) in first half there are 4 points
and clearly Savage as an assist is ANOTHER pour points

But what is not clear is...

What happens if (say) you chose Azeez-Wing as your scorer
but Savage as the assist?

Clearly you don't get points for SCORER, but should you get points
for the correct assister?

That is, you get the 8 points for EHIBxx-Savage assist, but should we allow
4 points for correctly picking the assister (an art in itself) or do we only get
assist-points if we got the goal-scorer correct?

After this game we can settle the issue.

But for now I feel you can get 4 for scorer and 4 for assist
(even without picking the correct scorer)

I would also give 4+4+2 Bonus if you get Primary (not alt) Scorer and assist, correct half

Webster and Regular John should get an extra 4, Royal Forester 2, MorganB 1

and Franconian got Scorer-and-assist but in the wrong half

THIS GAME ONLY I have awarded points for asset whether or not you got the scorer

40 Webster 750
27 Regular John
24 Horsham Royal
23 Royal Forester
23 Green Programme
22 Franconian Royal
21 Snowball
20 MorganB
19 Royal Jimmy
16 Tinpot Royal
16 Moon Pig

Wow! Webster 40 points on his first entry into the competition. Well done, mate.

Snowball, I think if you get the assister, or the alt. assister right, you should get some "reward", as I feel getting the assister right is harder than getting the scorer correct. After all, the scores can be narrowed down to a few players in most matches, whereas the assister can be any other player, including the 'keeper. How about awarding 1 point for correct and/or alternative assister if the scorer is wrong, but not of course it means keeping you up half the night trying to work out the sums.

How about scoring the scorer and the assister independently then bonus points for both being right.

Yeah, this (which actually makes sense)

The deal is (and will be)

SCORER (alone)

4 Points First Choice Correct Half
2 Points First Choice Wrong Half
2 Points Alt'v Choice Correct half
1 Points Alt'v Choice Wrong Half

ASSISTER (alone)

4 Points First Choice Correct Half
2 Points First Choice Wrong Half
2 Points Alt'v Choice Correct Half
1 Points Alt'v Choice Wrong Half

Yes, there's a bonus for getting both correct

BONUS MARKS for getting Scorer AND Assister

4 Points First Choice Scorer, First Choice Assister, Correct Half
3 Points First Choice Scorer, Second Choice Assister, Correct Half
3 Points Alt'v Choice Scorer, First Choice Assister, Correct half
2 Points Alt'v Choice Scorer, Alt've Choice Assister, Correct half

To save my brain, no bonus points for the combo, if wrong half

You don't need to worry about any alleged complexity, cos really
there isn't any.

Get three "perfects", Scorer-Assist-Correct Half and get 4+4+4 Bonus

One alternative = 4 Scorer + 2 Assist +2 Bonus
One alternative = 2 Scorer + 4 Assist + 2 Bonus
Two alternatives = 2 Scorer = 2 assist + 1 Bonus

TOTALS are therefore
(ONLY CORRECT HALF for bonus)

12 Primary Scorer - Primary Assist - Correct Half and get 4 + 4 + 4 Bonus
08 Primary Scorer - Alter've Assist - Correct Half = 4 + 2 +2 Bonus
08 Alter've Scorer - Primary Assist - Correct Half = 2 + 4 + 2 Bonus
05 Alter've Scorer - Alter've Assist - Correct Half = 2 +2 + 1 Bonus

One of the reasons for adding assists (and a bonus for scorer PLUS assist)
is to make it more possible/likely that we get the occasional monster scorer
for a given game.

This keeps the competition alive for longer. Two perfect predictions
and a punter could move from bottom to top.

For clarity

If a player wins a penalty (because he has been fouled)
then no matter who scores the penalty the foulee gets
the assist. No "assist" if the penalty is missed.

If an opponent gives away a penalty, for, say, handball,
awarding an assist would depend on circumstance.

So, say, Savage's shot has beaten the keeper but the opposite
centre-back handballs to keep out the ball, I would give the assist
to Savage.

(If there is a lot of disagreement, we'll just have "no assist")

Just trying to cover all the bases here

If a RDG player takes a penalty and the keeper saves
and EHIBxx or whoever follows up to score, "EHIBxx"
obviously gets the goal, but the pen-taker does NOT
get the assist as he basically failed.

What's the situation if a player scores from a free kick, does the player fouled get the assist?

No (unless I picked him as assister...)

Winning a pen wins a guaranteed 1 on 1 with
the keeper from which the taker SHOULD score
