oldelmparky ... but hey.

Since the half way point the Magic Number has fallen from 50 to 34 in just four games. So at that rate we'll be safe after Easter. :)

On the other hand...
Talking Magic Numbers, it's only

55

for a place in Europe.

No Hoops
BasketCase Anyone else note that of the bottom 9 teams we have to play

6 at the Mad stad (Watford, SheffU, Wigan, Fulham, Villa and Newky),
2 away (Boro and Charlton) and
we've done the the double over the 'ammers.

With Sheff U, Wigan, City, Villa and Boro in the next 5

I can see us getting 12 pts from these games. so we would be safe by end of Feb.

Nice. :D

No.
We can only be safe after six more games (ie after 3rd March).
Winning our next six, which includes the one at the Emirates.
Wonderful birthday presi for me (12th March). :D

Yep, huge, and with 14 left to play.

Heck, Watford's magic number for safety is 56 (as pegged to Wigan, who've played 23, in 17th place) --which sounds good enough until one considers that Watford only have 16 games remaining (from which they could claim a maximum of 48 points)...

The first milestone is only four away, when Watford will not be able to overtake MU. Currently the available spread of points is:

The light yellow is Reading's spread, red is relegation safety, green is cut-off for still being able to win the league

With the events of 30/31 January, the green line has moved above the red, and there it shall remain for the duration. In plain language, United are now irrevocably safe, as none of Watford, Charlton and West Ham could reel them in.

Of more local significance, and for those who cannot resist a peek, the number now stands at 23 with 13 games to go...

on current form the bottom 4 will be lucky to reach 35 points

with us already on 37 some may argue we are already safe

Harps stay sharp Coppell's target for the end of 2006 was to reach 30 points, so he fell short by 3 points.

I reckon 40 points would be enough this season, but fear not, we will beat that total for sure.

Coppell's only target is the next game. I don't recall him ever mentioning any points targets. That's just not Stevie Coppell.

No more than 8 games, as Wigan are already on 22 points.

Well spotted! So effectively this table reckons that Wigan aren't going to get another point all season?

I just wondered as there was no hint as to the number of games on the chart; if it had been 2 or 3 it would have been to few, any more than 8 too many. 5 would show the trend, but its still a pretty rough and ready comparison as all it is is statistical in concept and doesn't take into account who is left to be played by each club, with a weigting based on whether its home or away, and that teams relative position to you currently.
