Katie Marsden I only attend a handful of games these days due the amount of utter mongs that suddenly decided they were Reading fans after the club started doing well. The sad fact is the vast majority of the 10,000 or so new fans are the worst type of fan imaginable.

It's shame because theres a good hardcore of Reading fans who have been going for years.

To be honest, I agree with you to an extent. Only to an extent though - successful club gets more fans shocker. Reading has always had a pretty decent latent support in so much as 40,000 on both ocassions at Wembley, 30,000+ at Cardiff etc. The football club has finally delivered a very good side and people are always going to jump on that bandwagon.

Sadly, Alad, what with the over-ambitious (IMHO) expansion plans this is only going to become ever more so the case. As far as I am concerned, we need these new breed supporters in order to sustain a successful club which as far as I am concerned is the most important thing.

Katie Marsden At Madejski

Best - Man Utd. Plenty of original chants and loud for what were nothing games to them, don't get the respect they deserve due to jealousy and bitterness.

Worst - Reading fans, can only sing a handful of songs with the help of a drum and Tom Hark over the tannoy. That's what you expect from a club than has attracted 10,000 new glory fans in about 2 years though.

Tedious and predictable.

One thing I don't get is the hatred of kids at the game. Did we all start going as surly 14 year olds?

Katie Marsden Take the drummer and piped music away and the atmosphere would improve massively.

the "Hard core" you belong to?

the hardcore of fans who would stop going regularly to games becuase they dont like some of the people who do go to matches?or what they sing?

id rather have th emongs and th eplastics there every week than someone who would let that put them off following their own team
wow they sound proper hardcore they do!

I still go, just not to every game as I no longer find it an enjoyable experience.

fair enough

ill just ammend my mental defintion of hardcore then

I agree if the club is to progress it needs these fans, but as someone who had a season ticket for over 10 years I find going to home games these days a boring experience. Show some passion and you'll get thrown out or one of these new fans will grass you up. Stand up for more than 10 seconds and you'll get some idiot moaning.

The Madejski's never been a great place for atmosphere.

However away days are shite when you get into the ground.

The thing that oxf*rd me off most is when the people who have been moaning all game telling me to sit down then stand up all through half time! :x

Seems like you really aren't following the right hobby.....

If you don;t enjoy home games OR away games then how about taking up macrame or joining a Morris dance team..

If you decide not to go to games just because you don't like some of the fans there, then clearly you don't like going all that much. I wouldn't think that someone who had had a season ticket for 10 years was fickle enough not to go because the club gets an influx of new fans when it gets promoted.

RG30 Enjoyed a good conversation with a Boro fan back in August, he had gone to every game last season which saw them reach the Semi Finals of FA Cup and UEFA Cup Final :shock:

Found the Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge very bitter over there failure to get 3 off us. Didn't think much of the Bolton fans after the game Saturday, kicking Reading fans at the train station

I was there, on my own, with the shirt on. WHAT?! Saw nothing of the sort so can't be on a large scale.

Agree with worst fans, has been said loads of times on here just how much a bunch of new money fans most of ours are but Utd the best??? They were amongst the quietest we have seen all season (plus their coaches were from Cardiff, B'stoke & Slough)

There's not really been any fans I thought were good at the Mad Stad. I thought the Utd fans were loutish and aggressive, and West Ham fans pathetic when most of them left at half time.

Away: Sheffield, and Wigan were friendly but not noisy.

I've decided to comment on them all starting in order that I have seen them. I will begin with the opposition home support.

Wigan;

Fiendly enough. Nice Marque Bar staff v nice. Actual support v poor, didn't expect much else. Not a peep heard all game.

Villa;

Disappointed with ground (lashing rain and late for the game didn't help)
Support average/poor at home, even though they won.

Sheffield;

One song and subdued at that, their one song was only heard once at the beginning of the second half. Their song is impressive, TBO though with the football we played in the first 45mins not many home teams would have been singing.

Wet Sham

2 choruses of Bubbles aided by tannoy. Apart from that nothing heard too busy enjoying the party!!

Portsmouth

Impressive, noisy and passionate, but obviously matters are difficult for away supporters so they face little competition especially on RFC no.13 off day.

Liverpool;

Most disappointed with their home support, I've taken onboard others comments abpout the game meaning nothing to them but nevertheless most disappointing.

Fulham;

Poor at home, but for me one of the best away days.

Newcastle;

Fantastic ground, fans quiet until they scored. Not as vocal as I thought they would be. Friendly bunch around the ground, they certainly didn't see us as a threat.

Watford;

Yellow Army, enough said. Did any fans have anything to sing about!!

Chelsea;

Thought somehow that their would be trouble, but away from the ground they didn't seem hardcore. Boxing day probably helped. Inside the ground they were average and faced competition from RFC faithful.

ManU.

Poor/average at home, away totally different. Had a drink in the Stretford Arms (home pub), support appeared mainly Irish and friendly enough. Although cup game had some tossers shouting out of cars.

Everton;

Surprised how poor the ground was; fans quiet and took Rocky to give them a lift!

Man City;

Nice Ground. Fans poor and only RFC left in stadium at full time.

Boro;

Average / poor, not alot to say really only sang when they scored.

Arsenal;

Shit fans, atmosphere non existant. RFC support also poor that day.

Tottenham;

Good/Average.

Charlton;

Good/Average.

Bolton;

Shit, can not understand why they appeared to be so optamistic before KO.

Birmingham;

Special mention to Baldy must be said.

Conclusion, quietist Wigan, most disappointing Liverpool, worst ground Pompey but we knew that anyway.

Although for the last few seasons we've not booed players, not got on the team's back when we go a goal down and generally been pretty good.

There are far, far worse than us although for some reason there is a section of our so called fans who delight in doing us down. I'd rather have the so called plastics than the 'I'm a better fan then you lot' sneerers.

Not been to every home game, so just basing it on the games I've been to. I thought the Utd fans in the cup were the best since Stoke, Millwall, Bristol Rover and Bristol City used to bring quality away support with them. Pretty loud and a great variation of songs.

Y21_Royal Best - Newcastle

I had a great trip to Toon and did experience the friendly Geordie myth. Even had a bloke running out of a meal with his missus in a smart restaurant after the game when he saw us, to ask us the score.

Worst - Man Utd by a distance

I never knew 70,000 people could make so little noise. But then they were all tourists

:lol: I'd forgotten that. I think I swore at him.
