I would just like to confirm that as I have to be in Germany and miss the match, we will play Chelsea off the park and this game will instantly be hailed as the 'best Reading performance ever' by all those there. Including my Brother-in-law who has my ticket for the night.

Behindu What a moronic set of comments from the Chelsea fans....

I really hope the whole pointless debate doesn;t get reignited as it's been done to death. I loath Chelsea as a result of the farce last year and am just looking forward to getting this game out of the way.

i don't even see why there is a debate.

1. watch the video, clearly hunt loses his footing when cech's leg catches his foot, so is it any wonder he couldn't jump out the way!? :?

2. he did apologize

the only debate for me is how much of a tit peter cech is...

for

1. not accepting that it was an accident (that he himself caused if he actually took the time to watch it) and instead listening to his manager who clearly will take any opporunity to slander anyone from the royal berks to cristiano ronaldo

2. not accepting hunt's apology

The comment from Cech that made me laugh was something like "Hunt didn't even write to me. All I got from him was a letter that he'd signed."

So did he write, or not?

AndyRFC Have you been drinking? or do you think swearing on the internet is still big?

Swearing is the laxative of life. If you don't let it all out on a regular basis, you will suffer untold pain and misery. Well that's my excuse anyway.

So get a life you silly ninny and find something worthwhile to moan about. (Did you see what I did there? )

I thought Andy RFC was writing in response to one of my posts that got deleted. Oh well, Reading to win 2-1. Late goals from Gunnarsson and Hunt! Cech out cold from his own player connecting during last goal scramble.

USAs confidence will be WAY up after his showing on Sunday, and he'll certainly be trying his best for another clean sheet.
Chelsea are suffering more injuries than we are, and it'll hurt them.
I'm thinkin SC will be more likely to encourage an attacking posture if they're playing well early on.
All that and the homefield advantage...
Reading 2 - Chelsea 0.
OH, and the cards will be absolutely flying. Would be surprised if no one gets sent off in this match.

Worrying thing for us is we have no preparation time.

Havingw orked out (and no doubt rehearsed) such a great tactical ploy for the United game the players will be mentally and physically drained. Today will have been a rest and recovery day, no chance of much training on Wednesday so essentially we have one day to get into gear for Chelsea.

A tough call, and I predict the last 20 minutes of the game could see some very tired legs.

It's shameful that Chelsea have been given extra time to recover from their game - puts us at a major disadvantage.

This from ESPN Soccernet:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/st ... nd&cc=5901

MAN OF THE MATCH: Marcus Hahnemann - Normally the chants of 'USA, USA' from the visiting fans at Old Trafford are taunts relating to the Glazer family. This time, they were appreciative as the Reading fans celebrated their goalkeeper's excellence.

MOAN OF THE MATCH: It doesn't strictly relate to the match, but there are surely better times to close Manchester's Metro system than when 76,000 people are converging on Old Trafford.

MANCHESTER UNITED VERDICT: They need no reminding that early-season momentum is vital and set the tone for last season with their demolition of Fulham in the first game. As Ferguson insisted, chances were created in abundance, but the lack of an out-and-out goalscorer, particularly after Rooney's removal, cost them.

READING VERDICT: The fixture calendar handed them an unenviable pair of early games - United followed by Chelsea - and, after an underwhelming summer in the transfer market, it all pointed to a tougher campaign. This was a 90-minute reminder of Coppell's qualities and the unity of his underrated squad.

IN WITH THE OLD: There is plenty of novelty value to the new season across the Premier League signings. New signings abounded, but Old Trafford provided an exception with none on the pitch at kick-off. Only one - Nani - made an appearance at all.

OPENING DAY NERVES: It's fair to say Dave Kitson does not relish the start of the season. Injured in the opening game against Middlesbrough 12 months ago, he was sent off this time.

Cech slid into Hunt's path as well, and took his leg away.

This one sentence from WR quite simply sums up the whole incident.

Whilst the initial clip shows Cech sliding into Hunts path this one shows Cechs knee catching Hunts foot causing his knee to drop.

Indeed.
It's a disgrace...
If at the end of the game we are knackered and they aren;t then that 2 hours will have been crucial....
Plus we had a long coach journey back whilst their players just had a short glide down the M3 to get home.
Conspiracy....

MrA wrote about their dodgy defence v Brum but I was impressed by the pace of Chelsea all over the pitch.
Shame we don't have a winger capable of taking on and beating Johnson who looked poor and shame that we won't have the aerial threat of Kitson.
I expect a high tempo game with a few goals but fear that we might not have the creativity to make enough chances.
Reading 2 Chelsea 3.
Quite a few bookings and plenty of added time leading to the normal midweek late finish.

the more I look at that the more I wonder if Hunt actually made any contact with his head?
It could almost be that Cech hurt his head on the pitch,

Royal Lady I think they'll go all out to get another of our players sent off, probably Hunt. They'll fall down at every opportunity and nick the game from a free kick that they shouldn't really have been given.

1-0 to Chelsea I'm afraid.

These England players seem to have really perfected the falling-over-making-it-look-like-a-foul business. After Lampard deliberately falling into Sonko last year, has anyone looked closely at Gerrard's appalling but successful attempt to get a free kick against Villa? He pushed the ball ahead of him, the Villa player stuck his leg out to try to toe the ball away and Gerrard threw himself into his leg. He was definitely stumbling well before he made contact.

With that in mind and that Drogba should make some of the game, I would say Chelsea 2-1.
