Hope it's not Second Season Syndrome.

That can be fatal.

2.8 lita injection We need to spend, spend, spend.

Sodje waiting for the injured players to die.
Seol looked slow and disinterested YET again today, why oh why does Steve C keep picking him?

I said to my sister Ian earlier, it would cost us this match.

Tilehurst Mike
Daniella I just can't see any reason why we haven't signed players. There is still a loan system you know, or had everyoen forgotten that?
Why have we not got players in when the whole effing world can see we need additions.

Unless we alter our wages policy we will never be able to compete for players in the transfer market and thats why we will lose the likes of Lita and Shorey eventually like we did Sidwell

Steve Coppell said in a recent radio interview, and who knows elsewhere, that we can afford the transfer fee in nearly every case, but the wage structure often doesn't suit the big name players. The up-side of it is that the players we do have here feel they are an equal member of a tight knit squad.

I think we understand the benefits that brings. Leeds, Sheffield Wed and Bradford City all splashed the cash.

OMG! OMG! OMG! We lost a game against a team that isn't expected to finish in the top two! We must be destined to be relegated with a record 8 points!

Woe is me! We have no players of better than League 1 quality! And the squad that turned out to be easily big and good enough over the course of a season last year, plus a few additions, is suddenly miniscule!

oxf*rd reactionary retards.

That is all well and good and to be admired, but what happens if Murts retires at the end of the season, Seol leaves, Lita and Shorey leave at the end of their contracts, Ingi retires in a couple of years.... how do we entice other players of Premiership quality to the club?

Are you asking what do we do if someone who rarely pulls their weight leaves and someone who spends an increasingly large amount of time injured retires, and 3 people leave in 2 years time?

Wow, what a worst case scenario that one is.

No. I'm asking how you can build brick on brick when in all eventuality, we could end up losing a lot of players in one go, either at the end of the season or within the next two years. Please don't patronise me.

How will we replace them? Much the same as we did Sidwell I imagine. We are clearly aware of the need to replace Murty sooner or later. Seol isn't exactly intrinsic to the team and we already keeping our eye out for right wingers.

Why on earth worry about a centreback possibly retiring early in two years time and people who still have two years on their contracts. If they don't look like signing at the end of the season, then we can offload them for money and buy replacements.

If you want to panic about losing players, how about Murty spending most of this season injured, Sonko not coming back the same and having niggling knee problems for the rest of his career, Kitson getting nobbled again and retiring, Little retiring and Seol leaving.

That could cause a problem. Not 5 players might leave in the next two years or so. If you don't want me to patronise you don't ask such silly questions.

Agree with RL. Its all well and good keeping existing players happy and keeping the foundation, so why is it they want to leave anyway? Sidwell gone and shorey and lita are weighing up their options...basically waiting for a better offer...what do we do about that when the existing foundations want to leave? Its not a case of sticking with what we've got if they are off is it? We are going to need to replace them with existing quality players..something you don't find cheap and have to pay for.

Same bloody question applies then, how can you build brick on brick when you can't legislate for these things? It may not be a question of getting in one or two players as back up anymore, it will mean trying to attract players proven in the premiership who can help us stay here.

Agree with RL.

We need to take a long hard look at our wage structure and pay decent wages or we'll carry on failing to attract good players and losing our best ones.

The book of Revelations And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon, and Reading shall lose 3-0 away to Bolton whom, although a good side, shall have been in poor form up until then.

Its the apocalypse alright; we're all doomed.

Have I over-reacted enough?

You can't legislate for that kind of thing so there is no point worrying about it. We will continue to bring in players in each window, replacing what we lost with equal or better where possible, and also strengthern within our budget where it seems we need it the most.

You seem to be missing the whole point of Brick by brick. It isn't designed to be hugely successful in the short term.

If I can draw an analogy with building a tower.

You could just put as many blocks as you can get on top of each other and reac a great height. Of course in the slightest breeze the whole thing falls over and you have to start again from the beggining.

If however you use less bricks at a time and build in the shape of a pyramid, expanding aruond the bottom to give you more support to build onto, then if something goes wrong somewhere, the whole structure doesn't collapse, you just lose the top couple of bricks.

It takes a lot longer, but it means should we lose a load of players and not be able to replace them immedietly and get relegated, we still have an excellent base to build from and get promoted again, rather than a bunch of highly paid arses who jump ship at the first sight of the championship.

I'm not complaining about today's result. I haven't seen the highlights and won't make an opinion until I've seen them. However, someone mentioned the brick on brick approach, which may well have worked ok for us in the past, I am merely making the observation that the team on which we have built, is likely in the next couple of years to be decimated by leavers, retirers etc. Only, I'm not allowed to have an opinion or make a comment, if it doesn't agree with that of the well-known footballing pundit Ian Royal.

Don't be silly RL, you're perfectly entitled to your opinion, just as I am perfectly entitled to shoot it down in flames.

Why the sudden worries about all our players leaving if its got nothing to do with today's result, last week everyone was talking about another campaign for Europe and how great we are, we lose 1 fricking game and the knives are out whining about our transfer policy and wages structure and lack of ambition. It's the same nonsense that gets spouted on here time and time again.

Please don't feel I'm trying to single you out in any way RL, Its just the unbelievable reaction that I'm seeing has me rather miffed.

Also, there is never any guaruntee a player will be here 2 - 3 years in the future. It just isn't sensible to sign those extra long contracts unless you play for one of the big 4. Players move on, it is the nature of the game. Our wonderful Championship side will be broken up and changed. That is the way it goes. We will replace players, thats what clubs do. We may not be competeing for Europe again for a few years, but we won't be leaving the premiership this year. If we do, I'll buy you a consolation bottle of wine.
