Are we still 5 points outside the relegation zone? Well, yes, I think we are! Would those teams below us rather be in our position with our number of points? I rather think they would.

Fcuking doom and gloom merchants! Call yourself supporters when all you want to do is look on the worst possible turn of future events without any real semblance of balance to your views. Crap.

Royal Rother
Man Friday Lose to Bolton and we've had it.

What a stupid statement to make. One defeat does not end a season.
What was unclear about this?

FWIW I've been watching RFC for 26 years, through thin rather more than thick, I can assure you, and I am merely stating things AS I SEE THEM and HOW I FEEL. That I can't have your abundance of optimism at this current time is indeed upsetting to me.

Yippee! A side that didn't play today failed to make ground on us (other than improving their goal difference against us)

West Stand Flash With Madejski offering very very low wages in terms of Premiership club structures - We have little to no chance of signing any quality players.
we're not paying high wages, but are our wages very very low compared to Fulham, Birmingham, Wigan, or indeed any club of comparible income?

Or should the club just be spending millions regardless of whether we can afford it or not?

Yeah, we might struggle this season. We might even go down. But what did you expect exactly? £50 million spent on £40,000 a week signings and a push for a UEFA Cup place?

We're a small club. Just being here is a bonus.

What to me is most worrying is that we have had since last August/September to prepare for this transfer window and the Shorey and Lita situations were known then as well as the time that Fae (who in August would have been seen as a first team regular by now)Sonko and Bikey would be off.
Also the future Of Glen Little has been in doubt for some time.

So what happens in the first 12 days of the transfer window?
We sign a Czech lad who is an International but for some reason can't possibly come into a side near the relegation zone until he has been here for God knows how long.

I know that you can't always just press a button to make things happen but when Coppell said the other day that we have 17 cup finals to play and by the end of the transfer window will have just 14 for any new signings to play in.
We are running out of time.
Everbody knows that Lita is going to 'Boro,Sunderland or perhaps Fulham so why haven't we brought in a replacement striker already who can be available for 16 cup finals?

The striking department is probably less urgent than the defensive areas and even with Sonko and Bikey available we are equal worst in the whole league so again we knew that we would be short but nothing has happened.

This club has much going for it but transfer activity is an area where we are too reactive and not sufficiently proactive.

It isn't even optimism - it's realism, nothing more.

I just don't see any reason to be as negative as so many on here are, yourself included.

We are where we are in the table and we are better off than 6 teams at the moment. The fact that those teams have, and are again likely to in January, spend more than we have or will, is absolutely no justification whatsoever in my mind for anyone in their right mind to consider that means they will automatically overtake us by the end of the season.

Let the events unfold. Maybe we will go down, but the bookies are apparently offering 6/1 against that happening! Those are big odds for you guys - I trust you will hasten down to Corals on Monday to slake your pessimism and dissatisfaction with a big wager.

It's ok thanks, Schards already backed us at 10/1 against going down after the Newcastle game.

Losing to Bolton in isolation will, clearly, not relegate us. But in my view, IF we lose, it will damage morale irreparably and send us on a downward spiral. (When I referred to position, I was referring to it in a wider sense, not our league position - clearly not gaining points will, de facto, worsen our league position.)

I hope we win. If we lose, I hope I'm wrong about my prediction.

I really don't know what you lot are worrying about. The ticket prices are cheaper in the Championship and we get to see our team win more often.

Bring it on!!

Yes, but whatever happens tomorrow there will still be 6 or 7 teams in a worse position than we are in the table. That's reality. And spending daft amounts of money on second rate players will not help them close the gap. The most crucial elements will be fighting spirit and togetherness when the going gets really rough - I'd back us to be better than at least 3 of the other lot in those departments that's for sure.

Reading FC isn't a shambles, we've just to get on with it.

Villa are a very good side, no shame, or shambles losing to them whatsoever, as usual, perspective goes out of the window on this silly auld forum.
If Reading fans are as nervous against Man U as some of the usual people are on here, it'll be a morgue.

Doubt it though, vast majority I guess, don't give a toss and will just get on with it.

The club is not a shambles. We may well see things go to the wire this season and if the worst happened and relegation occurred its not the end of the world. We would all be very peed off but the club would be in decent shape to bounce back.
It has also been good to see that despite the interest of other clubs in our players none have been sold to date. I doubt whether any will be either so the team has not broken up as some had feared.
No management is ever perfect and criticisms of the lack of incoming players, the loyalty of SC to certain players and the reluctance to make positive substitutions are going to be voiced. That does not mean matters have reached a shambolic state but perhaps reflects that in reality we have been punching above our weight and that will not carry on indefinitely.
We have to be realistic...but even then that realism suggests we have a good chance of survival this season.
