The only tune I've seen suggested on HNA? that I could imagine actually becoming an anthem would be a bastardised version of the national anthem. God save our gracious team, send us victorious, God save the Royals etc.

That line fits into the song about as well as Rik Waller into a size 0 dress, last line's not bad though (without the 'john').

Look lets have a moment here - we need an anthem that is...

a. not too long or difficult
b. means something to RFC
c. gets everyone involved
d. unique
e. Implies contempt for everyone not RFC (in prawn sandwich nice way otherwise none of our lovely new middleclass fans would sing it)
f. Dare I say it - is a little bit aggressive?

I would personally like to add that I used to like singing 'One man went to mow- went to mow a meadow. One man and his dog SPOT went to mow a meadow. We're the left side, we're the left side , we are left side of the bank...

I agree with you but the only way people will sing a club anthem is if they put it in the programme or play it everytime before a game or something!!

There is simply no point, you need all the stands singing the anthem and thats never going to hapeen with having the South and the West Stand at Mad Stand. Hmmmm - none of these work at all - I doubt very much whether any new "anthem" has been successful at any club in the golden age of all seater stadiums. Folks just want to sit down and "enjoy the spectacle" - they don't necessarily see that they have to be part of it.

If anything's going to work it'll either be old chants rehashed, or double strength beer at the bars leading to some strange spontaneous combustion and outpouring of wit, precision and brevity. Unlikely I know- but one place it will not happen is on an internet message board.
