As far as tonking other teams is concerned "never give a sucker an even break" is the only way to proceed! It drives me bloody crazy when a team is 5-0 up at half time and they don't go for ten! Just one game and your goal difference is potentially working in your favour! Don't be fooled by "professional (no piss-taking) etticut, fookem if they can't take a joke!

Forbury Lion The 7-4 and 7-3 defeats didn't help our goal difference much.... perhaps if we had shut up shop and played for a less heavy defeat it might have kept us up, perhaps not... who knows?

If were ahead on goal difference then maybe Fulham would have pushed harder and got a second?

We lost 7-3??? I remember losing 7-4 (pompey) and 6-4 (tottenham)
The Premiership seems such a distant memory, that's why I got the scores wrong!

Stupid games to pick, if we'd shut up shop and gone for damage limitation we'd be 5-6 goals scored worse off. We'd probably have ended up with an even worse goal difference.

The killers were not scoring for those two long runs and conceeding 3 against Both Bolton and West Ham early on and letting in late/soft goals against Fulham, Man City and Spurs etc. As well as all of the pathetic misses from Lita, Doyle, Oster, Hunt and co.

Of course correct some of them and Goal difference is redundant.

Iremember hearing that Man City had got a 5th minute of injury time winner against us and thinking that could be significant come the end of the season

that and their capitulation in the last 20 minutes means that Man City relegated us.

But obviously the other culprit is not getting a point against Fulham or Bolton. If we had drawn againt Bolton that would have been enough to send them down.........

This is off topic, but during our two seasons in the Premiership which teams did we never take a point off? I can only think of Arsenal.

The damage was done at home to Bolton and Fulham with two games where we just froze under the pressure and didn't play anywhere near our potential. The one against Fulham was particularly costly as that gave them momentum. Saying that, I'll always look back to Hunt's chance in the 88th minute or so against Blackburn where he had all the time in the world in the centre of the area, and he just let the ball go across him.

Correct. and only got a point off Blackburn Portsmouth and Chelsea - and drew with Man Utd twice....

We managed to get a win against everyone I think.... (well other than watford!)....

The first goal we conceded against Man City is much MUCH more typical of our season.

I like that idea. Didn't James Harper hit the post in the last minute at Everton? If only......

I know. I wish Archie had placed me in the corner...

Schards#2 Relegated by 3 goals, I can't help wondering whether we should have had more of a crack at trying to win 7-0.

Derby were abject and it would not have been beyond the realms of possibility to score another 3, i'm sure if the Fulham game had been played earlier and we knew we had to win by seven, we'd have gone flat out for it so I wonder why we didn't.

I suppose it's all hindsight having seen how poor Derby were and that the win was the main consideration but I wonder if the players have any regrets over this.

Scraping the barrell.

If we really were shit all season, then we wouldn't have beaten Liverpool 3-1 at all, would we?

As I recall, we were all annoyed that the media went on about how poor Liverpool were, when they were as good as we allowed them to be.

To be fair, we should have beat Liverpool 6-1. That would have kept us up.

You are wrong about Blackburn - we managed 2 draws against them

We also beat Man City 3 times
We beat Fulham and Bolton twice (pity they were both last season) and we also won twice against Derby (our only double this season), Sheff Utd, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, West Ham and Wigan.

Agreed, beating Liverpool a mere 3-1 was where it all went wrong.
