Not ben to a pre season friendly since we played Newcastle about 10 years ago. I got in free and still felt ripped off.

Wooo, it's our one home pre season friendly, a week before the start of the season so no-one wants to do a Forster and get injured in a totally meaningless game and miss the whole season. Home friendlies are shit and a complete waste of money, always have been, always will be. It's why the club desparately try to jazz it up with all this "we'll be playing in the new kit for the first time" bullshit to give the impression that anyone actually gives a oxf*rd.

Not exactly a novelty seeing a top tier team these days. Nor is it a big worry we'll not have a chance to see one again for many years.

Going to Forest >>>>> Friendly with Villa.

I don't normally do friendlies but went today as my kids wanted to go and was pleasantly surprised.

We played some decent football, it was reasonably competive and we got to see some of the youngsters, none of whom look like they would disgrace the first team.

Astonishingly poor crowd though, I was expecting 15,000 odd.

I think todays crowd is clear indication of how unimpressed everyone is with the club. I had a ticket for today, anticipating that there would be a few new faces on show to get excited about, couldn't be arsed turning up in the end really.

todays attendence shows now reflection on reading fans thought on the season ahead. at the end of the day friendlys are poor and im pretty sure that going to forest next sunday will be a tenner a lot better spent, well for me anyway being a student :)

Friendly's are a waste of time for fans, unless you particularly want to see the ground/team your club is playing.

With the price of football the way it is these days and the fact we've just had 2 seasons of premiership football there really is no reason to go.

Thought we played ok, but it is important to remember Villa had a decent number of reserves on. Bad point of the game was Cisse, looked poor and lacked the positional sense to anticipate and get the tackle in. Karacan on the other hand looked a lot more tenacious.

I remember a mate of mine turning up for a friendly and saying "I'm not bothered about the football. I just came down for a chat"

I think that exactly the attitude for a friendly. It's just a bit of an easy day out, a chance to have beer or two, and watch a bit of football without any stress over the result. Although saying that it was nice to not lose to Villa, whose fans must be the most insufferable big-time charlies in English football.
