3-1-win at Sheffield utd away ,back in 02/03 i believe, was a good night. Had Blades complementing us after the match for our play!
Also remember Stoke away when maddog came in to the stand and gave the travelling masses a pre-game pep talk.

Suppose we've never had the biggest travelling support but it's as loyal and passionate as anyones.

Enjoyed Boro away for result.

Newcastle first season up was a tuesday night I think. Enjoyed the match and most Newcastle fans thought we deserved a draw. Also exciting as the bird landed on the pitch and had to be rescued.

Last season at Newcastle we started well but they scored against the run of play and we folded.
Waited for players by team coach and they were very amenable-signing autographs photos etc.

Here's a few of my favourites

Wolves 2-0 in the Promotion season, Boxing day. We completely outclassed them, goals from Kitson and Convey saw us home. Support was great that day as well.



Norwich in the same season, where we won 1-0 with a Harper goal, and Dean Ashton missed a penalty in the last minute



1-0 at West Ham on that rainy September.



1-0 at Fulham first Premiership season



Going mad at Chelsea, Boxing day 2006.



Fun at United 3 days later.



Newcastle on that day was amazing support, shame I got on the STAR coach and couldn't stick around for a night out.

A Sherpa Van Trophy (or whatever it was called at the time) cup tie in about 1983, away to Saaffend on freezing cold Wednesday night. Stood on an open terrace with about 100 other Royals in a crowd of a about 1500.

Lost 5-0.

I remember it well. Massive terrace and Gary Donnellan making his debut. There was a solitary sarfffend fan in the away end with us harping on about his mate called "Rolo" who was west 'am!

Don't know if anyone remembers these "classics" but Chester away possibly 1991 at Moss Rose when there were only 631 there on a Tuesday night. We were distinctly average. Branfoot's last game away at Leyton Orient was another shocker where we got tonked 4-0. What was worse was at half time the tannoy announcer told all and sundry that their fanzine team had stuffed ours 6-0. I played

I agree with most of the games mentioned, but one I particularly remember was in 1998 when we were going to be relegated and Sunderland were high in the league and the Stadium of Light was new. We had an evening match there and rthe crowd was (roughly, from memory) 44,000 plus and it was announced astheir record crowd so far. ...Got home at 4.00 in the morning!

Maybe it was because I had spent most of Christmas day on my own, but the Boxing day Chelski game was a great day out. We were at the peak of our "punching above our weight phase", and it felt good!

I loved seeing a comment afterwards on cfcnet saying we had taken the piss out of them.

It's also probably the one game I would have loved us to have won if I had to choose one, apart from relegation/promotion games. Could have been one of our greatest results (considering their home record) and we came pretty close.

I'll also remember that game - and strangely I wasn't even there!!!

I was over in Belfast with my family, and watched it on my own in a pub full of Man United and Chelsea fans. Had a good chat with several in there, got drunk on lots of beer.

Remember I went to the toilet and heard a big cheer, and when I came back thought we'd conceeded again, and it took about a minute to realise we had equalised.

Away support will always be better than the home support because the fans are concentrated in one part of the ground rather than around the whole of it. Mind, when we went 1-0 up against Man ure the place went completely hatstand.

Leeds away in the League Cup when Eric Nixon played in goal. 3,500 up there on a Wednesday night going mental throughout the game. The Peacock across the road from the South Stand was turned into a Reading pub from very early on leaving the leeds fans to drink in the garden! Went 1-0 up but lost 2-1.

Chelsea away in the league cup in 87 was a bit special. Pi55ed down all night long and Colin Gordon scored twice - the second followed by the V sign to the away end. We went mental!

Carlisle away midweek 81 0-0 12 hour round trip 2 days off work one Smiths coach bloody freezing.
I remember playing Aldershot away once on Boxing day a crowd of 6000 must have been over 3,000 Royals there like a home game for us!

Best ever Reading away support? 93/94 at Bournemouth in the final game after we had wrapped up the title was a blast, we had well over half the ground and was memorable for the infamous 'disallowed goal' scored by a Reading fan . Otherwise anything in the final weeks of 94/95; 4,000 at Bristol City was a real craic. Apart from those already referenced, an honourable mention for 02/03 midweek at Palace; in fact to be fair, we're normally in good voice at Palace. And of the clubs in our area (Swindon, Oxford, Aldershot and Wycombe) we're the only ones who always turn up in numbers at away derby matches.

I was just going to mention that one. Having been away during the Premiership promotion year this and the home match preceding it (Brighton, was it?) remain my favourite memories of watching RFC - nice of Bournemouth to give us the entire new terrace, wasn't it?
