He sat in the front row of Y23 iirc, a few rows in front of me until I moved in 05/06. He got Hahnemann's shirt a couple of times.

It is a tragedy - for his family and friends. For those of us who never met him it is a peripheral sadness. Some of the posts above are OTT in the extreme. Given that there are no stands etc named after players who were legends to suggest such an accolade for a 13 year old is a little overstated.

I wish his family well.

Really sad.

Think a minute's applause and the extra big No.13 banner passed around on Saturday would be appropriate.

I think a simple chant of 'Stewart Mcewan' A la 'Shorey for England' whilst his Mum and Dad are on the pitch would be quite touching.

Devestating. 13 years is nothing. A bright future has been taken away from him and his family.
A minutes silence at very least should be held before the saints game.

Tragic accident, my deepest condolences go to his family.

I hope to see a minutes silence/applause at the very least.

Once a royal, always a royal.

Tragic story. Used to see the lad when I was on my paper round a couple of years ago. Lovely boy and such a waste. Hopefully the club give him some sort of tribute. It's a parent's worst nightmare, especially on the run up to Christmas where the pain will be extremely hard. My view is that we should give him a minute of silence and show that we really are a family club and we really do care when we loose one of our own.

Stewart was also an only child making it very hard on his family. Played in a team with my cousin of the same age and became good friends.

My condolences are with all of his friends, family and anyone that knew him.

A tragic loss

All the more reason then for the club to give him a minute's silence.

Im sure one of either 'minutes silence' or 'minutes clapping' will happen. Either will be respectful.

I really wish I could be at the game on Saturday, not for the purpose of watching the match but just to pay my respects to a young life cut short. Rest in peace Stuart.

I actually wouldn't be against that idea. It's a good one. Many might consider it a step too far, but 13 is 'spare', and if it can't be used to recognise the sad loss of one of our own then I don't know what use it is.

I wasn't going to comment on this, but can't help myself. I completely understand the sentiments of the people on this board with regards to paying some mark of respect towards this tragedy. My lad is in the same year in the same school as Stewart McEwen was, and some of his friends were on that rugby tour, so there have been a lot of desperate texts flying around. There are two parents who are grieving now, and probably for the rest of their lives for their son, and yet there were idiots over on the Anything Else forum who were making smug jokes about it. They should feel utterly ashamed of themselves, and that board needs to be cleared out. If this is anything to go by, my only fear would be that Southampton supporters would do likewise, and that's a sad, sad reflection of modern Britain. This post is probably going to cause me grief, but right now I'm not sure that I care.

RIP Stewart. Word's cannot describe such a tragic loss.

When a Man Utd academy player passed away a few years ago the first team all wore his name on their shirt when they won the FA cup (for the presentation only). Love to see the entire first team come out all wearing no 13 with his name for on at least for the warm up, minute's applause and huddle on Saturday. Would the football league allow us to play the game with his name on the back of every player's shirt? Maybe even under the numbers where some teams have a sponsor's name?

RB, in defence of AE, I think dan19's original post was meant in all seriousness, but was not taken that way, before this story broke across the national media. I appreciate your upset however, and I'm sure a moderator can and will remove the thread as soon as they read this post.

I wouldn't personally fear for the Southampton fans, I don't think they will cause a problem.

This is truly tragic.

Should be a silence IMHO, time for thought, not celebration.

Both of my daughters have been to that centre, no parent would ever assume they would not return, deepest sympathy with all the family.

Also thoughts to all at Maiden Erlegh School as well, today will not be a normal day there.

RIP Stewart McEwan
