Roque Santa Cruz at Blackburn.
"I would really like to keep improving and performing better than I am doing right now," Santa Cruz told the BBC.
"And if a better or an ambitious club come in and want to offer me the chance I would like to take it."
Santa Cruz admitted it would hard for him to leave the club which he joined from Bayern Munich in 2007. "My contract with Blackburn is clear and for that I need to continue with the club. "But I am looking to again play in a big side that is in Europe and trying to win their league.

Any difference to Hunt?

There is a bit of a difference to being ambitious and wanting to better yourself and coming out in public basically touting yourself to other clubs.

The fact that Santa Cruz has done something similar, as have hundreds of players in the past, doesn't make any better.

Simple fact is Hunt carries on playing like he has over the last 5 or 6 weeks and there is no Premiership club that would even consider buying him.

For the fee Reading would sell him for he'd be easily replaced.

A truly average footballer with ideas above his station.

i would have more of a problem if he said how much he wanted to stay at Reading and then went in Jan.

Lets face it we should count ourselves lucky we still have him now.

Hunt has sold himself as a character and as such gets himself asked onto shows like this. Having been asked the question all he's done is answer in as honest a way as possible. I'd much rather that than he come out with some nonsense about not wanting to leave whilst his agent is in the background trying to set up any deal he can. If you think there's more than a tiny percentage of players who wouldn't do exactly the same as Hunt given the same platform then i'm afraid you're completely deluded.

Would i rather he hadn't said it? Well yes but what he seemed to be saying was that he wont go to just any Premier League club (ala Sonko & Kitson) which appeared to be his criteria early in the season. He now wants a 2nd tier Premier club so in that sense he may actually be talking himself out of a move rather into one.

As far as I'm concerned actions speak louder than words and as long as he continues giving 100% for us then thats all anyone can and indeed should expect. Clubs don't give players contracts because they want them to stay for that period of time, they give them out because they want the opportunity to maximise their value if the need arises. Why people think players should look at it any differently is a bit of a joke really.

Santa Cruz has ability..........................

No you're right, there is no difference, accept that Santa Cruz is far, far too good for Blackburn and him joining them was a massive favour to Blackburn. Hunt forgets that Coppell has made his career by giving him the opportunity to play here. His ingratitude is annoying.

Still, Let Hunt leave, and then he'll fall flat on his face when he discovers that he's not as good as he thinks he is, in the mould of Sonks, Kits and Shorey. Players sometimes need to learn that the grass is not always greener.

To be fair wanting to pay for a big PL club is completely reasonable.

The problem is the lack of respect to the fans. Some players forget that the fans care far more about the club than they do. Players come and go but the fans are there for good and ultimately the fans pay their wages.

So IMO it is the fact that Hunt so clearly states his intention in public that is so disappointing. Better just to play well and leave it up to the PL scouts to decide if he is worth the 5M or not in January.

I fear we may end up doing more business this transfer window that RFC or Steve Coppell would like.

A friend of mine used to play pker regularly with Stephen Hunt and a few of the younger/non-first team players. When Hunty first joined, my mate used to say what a sound bloke he was. Now my friend says Hunt has turned into the most arrogant oxf*rd he has ever met in his life. It's amazing what a one good season and a stinit in the Prem can do for the ego. If only his football backed it up he wouldn't look like such a cock.

Stephen Hunt has probably never been a Reading fan, they are his current employer

I have followed the royals for about 20 years now

If a 2nd tier premiership club asked me to play for them I would turn them down over Reading?

I would far rather he said he would go if the right opportunity came along than give us all this bullshit about how he was commited to the club and then leave in 4 weeks.

YAWN at Reading fans. How dare a player have ambitions over and above the club he plays for. He is on Soccer AM with Noel on Xmas Day for those that require a further moan

As fans we all really want to see this team get us back into the Premiership. However, the fact is if a club like Everton come in for SHunt then he'll be off like a shot, without a thought for RFC and the relegation that we're trying to put right. But you can't blame the player for that it would be a great oppotunity.

However I totally agree that Hunt has gone out of his way to mention a move in virtually every national media interview possible this season, which I find disrepectfull to Coppell, who lets face it made him what he is today.

Michael Kightly is being courted by several Premiership clubs, but all I've heard him say is how committed to Wolves he is.

Lets just hope Andrew Surman is being lined up now.

In this division, where match day revenue etc is a much higher percentage of the clubs income, we do.

Even in the Premiership you could argue that it's the fans money that drives the TV income and so we pay indirectly.

I basically agree with you. If Hunt (or Doyle) go to one of the supposed 'second tier' of prem clubs i.e Villa, Everton or possibly City I wouldn't be upset with them. If they go to Stoke, Hull or Wigan I would be disappointed. Should Shunt be flaunting himself in the media? No. Would I do it in his position? Possibly yes. It depends on the person.

And I think we could replace him. I like Surman and I think there are other good players out there. However these players would probably take time to bed in. In saying that Armstrong and Noel stepped up to the plate well enough. Maybe at the end of the day, Shunt leaving would affect the team most in terms of morale. He is in some ways the heartbeat of the team and people like Doyler and Noel like having him around and know how he plays.

Without fans professional football as we know it would not exsist.
