Huntley & Palmer Surely Derby or Sunderland hold that record, rather than us :|

Didn't Sunderland lose their last 18 in 02/03 or 03/04 (can't remember which)? And then they lost a few more at the start of 05/06 after they had gone back up, meaning they have lost 20 or so Premiership games on the bounce. Am I right or wrong? That record would take some beating.

Last year Derby had a run of 7 losses in a row and also a run of 6 losses in a row.

Sunderland (05/06) had 9 losses in a row:

English Premier Sunderland 1-3 Man Utd 15-10-2005
English Premier Newcastle 3-2 Sunderland 23-10-2005
English Premier Sunderland 1-4 Portsmouth 29-10-2005
English Premier Arsenal 3-1 Sunderland 05-11-2005
English Premier Sunderland 1-3 Aston Villa 19-11-2005
English Premier Sunderland 0-1 Birmingham 26-11-2005
English Premier Sunderland 0-2 Liverpool 30-11-2005
English Premier Tottenham 3-2 Sunderland 03-12-2005
English Premier Charlton 2-0 Sunderland 10-12-2005

GTFI!

cmonurz Come on you Toffees!

Death was before my time, but it's seeing United go this close that hammers home how great a record it is.

If the record goes, it goes. It's a massive achievement, and not just about Van Der Saar, but his defence too.

If the record goes, I reckon we ought to drag Stewart Henderson onto the pitch in stocks at the next home game!!

It's all his fault!

Actually, it was all George Shipley's fault for not signing with us in that close season. He played every minute of that clean sheet run at the end of 78-79 and as soon as we started a league game without him, we concede.

Still don't know what Stewart Henderson was trying when he scored that one - was facing East and praying ?

Maybe a far east betting syndicate had got to him!!

Only joking Stewart!!

You are correct:

English Premier Sunderland 0-0 Blackburn 11-01-2003

Then:

English Premier Everton 2-1 Sunderland 18-01-2003
English Premier Sunderland 0-1 Southampton 28-01-2003
English Premier Sunderland 1-3 Charlton 01-02-2003
English Premier Tottenham 4-1 Sunderland 08-02-2003
English Premier Sunderland 1-3 Middlesbro 22-02-2003
English Premier Fulham 1-0 Sunderland 01-03-2003
English Premier Sunderland 0-2 Bolton 15-03-2003
English Premier West Ham 2-0 Sunderland 22-03-2003
English Premier Sunderland 1-2 Chelsea 05-04-2003
English Premier Birmingham 2-0 Sunderland 12-04-2003
English Premier Sunderland 1-2 West Brom 19-04-2003
English Premier Man City 3-0 Sunderland 21-04-2003
English Premier Sunderland 0-1 Newcastle 26-04-2003
English Premier Aston Villa 1-0 Sunderland 03-05-2003
English Premier Sunderland 0-4 Arsenal 11-05-2003

And:

English Premier Sunderland 1-3 Charlton 13-08-2005
English Premier Liverpool 1-0 Sunderland 20-08-2005
English Premier Sunderland 1-2 Man City 23-08-2005
English Premier Wigan 1-0 Sunderland 27-08-2005
English Premier Chelsea 2-0 Sunderland 10-09-2005

Followed by:

English Premier Sunderland 1-1 West Brom 17-09-2005

So that makes 20 in a row (or 15 in a row in the same season).

Sunderland 02-03 were much worse than that. They had at least 13 (possibly 16) in a row, starting after a 2-0 win against Bolton in January 03, followed by being pointless till the end of the season - a situation they've strived to maintain ever since.

Well, today's the day. United v Everton kicks off at 5.30pm.

Untied last conceded in the 48th minute at Arsenal on 8th November. I make that 1,032 minutes, Death's record standing at 1,103 minutes, so we are after an Everton goal before 72nd minute at Old Trafford.

On clean sheets in all competitions - soccerbase doesn't list the world club final in Van Der Saar's appearances this season. Did he play in that match?

As Everton have no strikers it looks like it's the death of Death's record.

Oh well.........................

Some of the jokes on the BBC thread of Everton United are great.

Someone asked if Death was the 'Grim Keeper.'

And that it was the kiss of death to Van Der Saar.

And that Van Der Saar made a death-defying save

1905: It's official. The 72 minutes are up and Edwin van der Sar has beaten Death. The United keeper reaches 1,104 minutes without conceding a league goal, beating the previous mark set by Reading's Steve Death in 1979.

One of football's great records is beaten.

Worth noting the British league record of 1,196 minutes, set by Chris Woods at Rangers. Van Der Sar can pass this mark in the 75th minute in United's next game, at West Ham.

Three clever pieces of editing on Wikipedia will allow Death to keep this record on the only source most people check. All I had to do was input the word "Football" between "English" and "league".
