BR started his carrer in management at atford, previously he was AM at Chelsea, a good position.

Anyone know the record for Alex ferguson at man Utd for his first games over the part season, I cant be arsed to look but Wimbledon did the double over them while he was in charge at the beginning!!!

http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/footb ... to_explode

Brendan Rodgers believes James Henry is ready to explode on to the first-team scene.

Rodgers helped nurture Henry’s blossoming talents when he was in charge of the club’s Academy.

Royals’ new manager was so impressed with the Reading-born winger that he tried to take him to Chelsea when he made the move to Stamford Bridge to become youth-team boss.

However, Henry elected to stay at Madejski Stadium as he felt his first-team chances were better.

Rodgers told the Post: “I wanted to take James to Chelsea when he was 16.

“I felt he was a big talent and still is. I thought being around big players and coming into that environment would be a big help in developing his game, but he made the right choice in the end.

“I feel it was right to stay at Reading. I have seen him play in international games and Reading games over the last few years and I think he is someone who is ready to explode."

Lets hope so!

I am a bit worried that if James Henry explodes during a game that the pitch may suffer even more damage and this will not help our chances of promotion.

It would probably be better if Rodgers just got him to play well for us - instead of destroying him.

Simply put, if the league as poor as it was last season and Rodgers plays the right team (with the squad we have already) and plays passing football, then we're UP already. That was how poor the league was last season but how likely will it be like that again? The only performance from an opposition team that had quality was Brum at home and yet we still dicked on them away. So the only fear I have is losing Bikey and Doyle because if we lose them then we are screwed. That's just my opinion though

I think the most difficult decision to be made is who will be captain. Part of our problem last season was the lack of control on the pitch.

TOTAL RUBBISH, TRY APPLYING YOUR BRAIN

Rodgers was appointed manager November 24th

A manager comes in, must take X weeks to understand all the players' strengths and weaknesses
X more weeks to drop players, bring in players, change the playing system

If you read the Watford site you will see that Rodgers tried to play an all-out passing game
and discovered that it wasn't possible with the players he had. Initially the team was averaging
not much better than they did before he arrived so he compromised and played a mixed game

I took the second half of his reign, and that is perfectly reasonable

16 games where he takes over someone else's team and tactics and morale
then 16 games where it's starting to be "his team"

A Bristol City FLC D 1-1
H Doncaster FLC D 1-1
A Birmingham FLC L 2-3
H Norwich City FLC W 2-1
H Coventry City FLC W 2-1
A Derby County FLC L 0-1
H Bristol City FLC L 2-4
A QPR FLC D 0-0
A Reading FLC L 0-4

First 9 League games

W2 D3 L4 10-16 = 9 points = 1.000 per game (46 point season equivalent = probable relegation)

H Sheffield Utd FLC L 0-2
H Burnley FLC W 3-0
A Wolves FLC L 1-3
H Swansea City FLC W 2-0
A Blackpool FLC W 2-0
H Crystal Palace FLC W 2-0
A Plymouth FLC L 1-2
A Charlton FLC W 3-2
H Nottm Forest FLC W 2-1

Second 9 games W6 L3 16-10 = 18 Points = 2.000 per game (92 point season equivalent = Champions)

So after 9 games, his second nine games he improved the goal
difference by 12 goals (compared to the previous 9 games)
that's 1.33 goals per game and they got twice as many points per game

In this spell they also had a cup win versus Palace and played very well against Chelsea

H Sheffield Wed FLC D 2-2
A Cardiff City FLC L 1-2
A Ipswich Town FLC D 0-0
A Doncaster FLC W 2-1
H Southampton FLC D 2-1
H Barnsley FLC D 1-1
A Norwich City FLC L 0-2
H Birmingham FLC L 0-1
A Coventry City FLC W 3-2
H Derby County FLC W 3-1

10 games (third third)

W3 D4 L3 14-13 = 13 points = 1.3 per game (a 60 point season equivalent (13th))

They won 50% of their games in the second half of his reign, and surely
even you would agree they had a weaker squad than Reading

Won 7 Swansea, Blackpool, Charlton, Palace, Forest, Coventry, Derby
Drew 3 Ipswich, Wednesday, Barnsley,
Lost 4 Birmingham, Cardiff, Norwich, Plymouth

H Tottenham LGCP L 1-2
H Scunthorpe FACP W 1-0
H Crystal Palace FACP W 4-3
H Chelsea FACP L 1-3

Super Kevin Bremner! Kebe

Strengths: Quick, bags of skill, scores bags of goals in training, plenty of assists last season when hw got decent crosses off.
Weknesses: Hugely inconsistent, can look really awkward, misses sitters in games.

Come on, you've got to expalin that one, the Stuart Gray trivk of kick and run is no skill.

omk then, what about the play ball behind front leg trick he tried every time, and often worked

just cos he then stopped running and waited for teh other guy to catch up again wasnt the skills fault

Ian Royal It's reasonable to be sceptical.

But, he says the right things. He's worked with the best. He knows the club, he likes the club and town. He's got a fresh approach, he's worked with our up and coming youngsters at a formative age already. What managerial experience he has, has shown him to be pretty good.

That's about as positive as any manager we could have got. From the list of names put about, Curbishley had a much longer CV, but most of his best work was with one club and he's been less successful in his more recent appointments.

That's just an example of how you can find something about any manager. Not a suggestion that Rodgers is a better choice.

A fair summary.

Can't disagree with that.

I'm not sure even a statophile like me can make head or tail of that but this is all very interesting.

I had a jab at Ian (and everyone else) for using only 27 games as an example, but at least they're using all they have.

On the other hand your argument isn't unreasonable and it gives me some hope.

Given the huge changes in form that can happen during a season (look at us!), the difference in climate, the difference in opposition, the honeymoon effect, the morale changes, the renewed hope of a new manager etc etc etc I still think it's just way too few games either way to say he has a record - good or bad. We can argue our case either way but at the end of the day he doesn't really have a record other than he did a bit better than the last guy.

Although the analysis is all very interesting and I appreciate it.
