Does Spacey work for the Met Office who put out a long range forecast telling us we were going to have a mild winter (following on from that absolutely baking summer that they told us we would have!)?

If so, little wonder they keep getting it wrong when Spacey seems to spend most of the working week on here!!

Negative_Jeff The whole Global Warming brigade is to blame. The government, the scientists, the wind farm developers, the carbon traders and the BBC. All of them are ripping us off big time. Presumably Reading Borough Council believed all this shite to the point where they felt it was no longer necessary to keep adequate supplies of grit and salt.

Jeff Jeff Jeff.....just because it hasn't happened overnight like in The Day After Tomorrow doesn't mean that Global Warming isn't slowly melting the polar ice caps and that we're not all doomed.

Ah but Floyd, last March the sea ice cover in Antactica was at its highest level since satelite records began in 1979. Last winter the Arctic ice cover was recorded at 13 million square kilometres, no change from the winter before.
I believe the climate change debate suits the Left because the supposed solutions lend themselves to top down centrist control, and provide a wonderful opportunity to have a pop at America, Big Oil and corporate profits.
Just to upset the team board pedants even more we could discuss this further next week in the Vat & Fiddle, Queens Bridge Rd
across from Nottingham station. Assuming the game is not frozen off of course!

No, he works for the Met Office which put out a long range forecast telling us there was a 60% probability that we were going to have a mild winter, which the media immediately turned into headlines saying "Met Office says Mild Winter coming!"

These would be long range forcasts that are still extremely experimental right?

Yep, the probability based ones - whereas the British media can't cope with probabilities - everything has to be in in absolutes for them.

Even at only '60% probability of a mild winter', given the extremes of what we are now in the middle of, I would say that is pretty damn inaccurate!!

Ian Royal These would be long range forcasts that are still extremely experimental right?

If they are still extremely experimental, then we are lagging behind the yanks! IIRC the BBC news mentioned the other night that their (the US) long range forecasting (and maybe that of the Russian's too) is somewhat more accurate.

Perhaps if Met Office employees spent a little less of the working day on forums, we wouldn't be lagging quite so far behind!

For that reason, Spacey very definitely gets my vote!!

Even I can't fault Madejski on this one!!

Eh?? is it not just the medja who don't understand how probablities work, then?

How hard can it be for the Russians. "It's gonna be fcukin' freezin' for the next six months" should do the trick every time.
