Although he'd never worked with Sonko at Brentford of course.

Cisse will be a decent buy for City and addresses the excessive number of average central midfielders we were left with.

Ian Royal
Sun Tzu
Paul Cowin I wish him all the best, will never be a top player though......and anothet 10-15k a week of the wage bill.

Do you really think we paid him that much ?

I'd be amazed if true, but I don't know what the current going rate for Championship reserve team players is....

He wasn't signed as a championship reserve team player, so I doubt that is relevant. I could see £10k quite easily as a Prem squad player who'd taken a pay cut but been intended as a first teamer at our level.

I think that is the single most depressing thing about Cisse's time at Reading.

Royalee Coppellol - goes in search of a new start, pitches up at another club and proves he's not learnt from his mistakes by signing the same mediocre players.

Yep, he never learns from his mistakes.

He came to reading and bought up old favourites of his like Ingimarsson, Hunt and Sonko, and look where that got him.

I think you'll find Kitson and Doyle had a fairly sizeable influence on us going up...Ingimarsson, Hunt and Sonko have hardly dazzled in the last 3 years have they?

I guess we'll see how Coppell does at Bristol City this season where he doesn't inherit a playoff team with a large budget and state of the art facilities.

Last three years has nothing to do with the point they got us up and kept us up. Ivar and Sonko played a massive part in that, Hunt to a lesser extent.

I presume when you say state of the art facilities you're talking about Hogwood which wasn't built when Coppell took over, large budget hardly and we'd arguably over achieved in getting to the play-offs in Pards last season having only just gone up the season before. As Coppell said at one of his fans forum appearances the stadium made the club look flashier than it was and was to use a northern phrase "all fur coat and no knickers".

Rodgers inherited a bigger budget than Coppell did when he took over and the state of the art facilities yet failed miserably.

You aren't very good at Maths are you? What's £3.5 million minus £12 million? I don't think it's quite as big as the budget Coppell had when he took over.

Steve Coppell's first signing for Reading Ivar Ingimarsson £175,000 Brendan Rodgers first signing for Reading Matt Mills £2,000,000.

In answer to your question no I've never been a brilliant at maths. However, even I know that Brendan Rodgers spent more money in a matter of days when he first arrived than Steve Coppell did in probably a year + when he took over from Pardew.

When did Coppell spend £12 million at all let alone in one season??

What he means is that Rodgers took over a squad that then has to sell over £12m worth of talent so his spending on players shoul be compared to those outgoings.

A squad that was far superior to the one Coppell took over, not just in talent, but in experience at that the highest level.

Although of course you could also factor in that Coppell arrived mid season when we had already spent £1.2m on Goater & Murray so had little money available for the new guy.

Will be interesting how Coppell does at City. He doesn't have the non coaching staff he did at Reading in Hammond/McDermott to identify talent and push him in the transfer Market. Coppell's signings build the base, but it was the signings we made in the summer before promotion that pushed us on. Coppell's not going to find the next Doyle.

Back on to Cisse, for all the talk of him at centre half, when did he last play there? I remember him being beaten in the air all the time when he played there in the Prem.

First couple of games of last season at least. Dicked against Newcastle and a cleansheet against Forest, where we looked in no danger of conceeding at all. Just a shame we forgot the purpose of playing was to score.

Cisse's signing was a weird one at the time. When we signed him he had played a season at centre back for Boavista and done well. Then we insisted in playing him in the middle of the park in the fastest league in the world. He was never that sort of player.

Good luck to you Khalifa. Your performance against Man Utd the year we went down and your goal at Brizzle City will always stand out

It was a squad that had been vastly superior but had also come to a spectacular end and seen most of the heart and key parts released or about to be sold. It needed a lot more work done to it, mentally and physically, than the one Pardew left because Pardew left us whilst he/his squad was on the up.

But as we've seen it also had a lot of young talent on the way through, something Coppell didn't really have even a hint of.

He chose not to use Tyson and Henderson.

That youth in which Rodgers put a lot of trust in with a view to building for the future yes.

As we saw at the start of the season, and McD proved with his later additions, that youth needed some solid experience around it because they weren't quite good enough or ready enough and because all teams need a blend of youth and experience.

Coppell had the likes of Henderson, Tyson and Ashdown already making a contribution (equates to Pearce, Karacan and Church) plus the likes of Cox and others (Castle, Campbell etc) who have never since fulfilled their potential.

I can't believe you can't see the difference between the two situations.

I think we should all be looking forward, not back.

We are where we are, and know that we can get to the Prem, over the last 6/7 years we have moved ahead as a club. We seem to be finacially sound still, and prudent.

I can see this squad pushing at the top right from day one, McD seems level headed, and passes that to the players, don't see him with big name charlies in the squad, which is the right way IMHO.
