Ian Royal
Extended-Phenotype How did he fuck it up exactly? Not here to defend him but wasn't it the contract that kept him out of the side rather than attitude or form?

Is there anything concrete to suggest it was otherwise?

Yeah, his inability to perform when he did get on the pitch. Also plenty of suggestions around about his disruptive influence. No matter how costly a player is, you don't freeze him out completely solely because of that. You do it if he's disruptive.

He's a player who had a lot of talent, got signed by a massive club and then blew up. He's had three chances to sort it out since, he's screwed them all up. Stories of his shenanigans at Everton are numerous and confirmed. Who else is to blame here?

He's had at least two chances here too.

He did perform on the pitch. Multiply his stats out for a whole season of 46 games and you'd be saying what a solid season he'd just had. Not really his fault he got injured against Leeds and missed a bunch of games.
Obviously it's still best for all if he leaves.

It's all already there. I don't need to add anything.

I really think he's burnt all his bridges here. He's passed the point of being helped and rejoining the squad, the sooner he realises that the better for everyone.

I wonder if he was racially abused while playing in Russia, like a former player we had here?

I wonder if, being so young at Real Madrid, it all went to his head too quickly and so much money caused him to go off the rails?

I wonder if Everton never really looked after him after all of this?

All these circumstances will have affected him and for a club to let him just go off the rails is awful really. It probably should have been nipped in the bud at Madrid, but it seems no-one bothered.

I expect you are right in all 3 of your wonderings, but the fact is he's a professional who's done something here that in any other job would be classed as gross misconduct and you'd be sacked. I don't feel at all sorry for him, he just seems to be stupid and has a massive chip on his shoulder.

I don't mind if he sees his lucrative contract out as long as he doesn't get near disrupting the first team again.

A former player? A FORMER PLAYER?! Is that all he is to you?

Can I say that I think he's quite good and should be given another chance please?

That, basically.

Really wanted him to succeed here but sadly, no chance. It's a fact that he was imposed on Adkins by Zingarevich, it's a fact he was a wrong'un from the start, giving it the big'un and questioning management, and it's a fact it all came to a head with the Pearce punch-up. His attitude is all wrong, he wasn't an Adkins player and as such Adkins has dumped him at the first opportunity open to him.
