Z175 Sad day.

SJM has finally run out of cash and is selling as he has no choice. The Russians are NOT billionnaires. The Dad, Boris has 300m , and no interest in football. His son knows Reading and loves football. We are basically a gift. How much is 300m? Well about the same as SJM had pre recession. How much will young Anton get to spend? 40m for Antom get to spend? Just the 40m for the club. I expect the transfer rumours are as nicky and Brian are ready to move, but the money will all be debt and loans.

We will be lucky to be the next Leicester, Pompey more like. I'll enjoy the ride tho

That sounds a pretty realistic assessment of the situation

Been on nights this week so only just heard the news. Without trawling through all 22 pages all I can say (someone has probably mentioned it already) the last thing I would want to see is RFC splashing the cash left right and centre (a la Leicester for example, and Chelsea if you take it to the nth degree) just to make us `newsworthy` and `competetive`. We are a well run club , self financing, friendly, community-based, accesible etc, ie what a football club should be, I do not want to see us become some sort of money-driven cliche-club without any heart and/or soul. I would be perfectly happy if things carried on the way they have the last few years, ie since Tommy Burns left when a similar thing happened (transfers I mean). If we get promoted , then it should be because we have financed it through our own means not some rich Russki who has nothing better to do with his roubles. Sorry if I`ve repeated whats already been said elsewhere but I do feel quite suspicious of things like this !

I too am an OB, although significantly younger. He could have joined for sixth form, which would mean he'd have arrived the year after you left?

It wouldn't suprise me, there was a significant russian presence at Bradfield while I was there.

Yep, very possible. I'll ask my cousin who was in his year. I'm hoping to be installed as the new commercial director if I can find my 'in' :D

Thames Sports Investment Ltd, a newly-founded private investment company, are very pleased to have signed Heads of Agreement with Sir John Madejski on Friday to acquire a significant holding in Reading Football Club.

Our agreement is now subject to due diligence and the normal procedures from the Football League.

The transaction is due to complete in March 2012, but the Heads of Agreement, as agreed with Sir John Madejski, includes providing Reading Football Club with some limited funding now to enable Brian McDermott and Nick Hammond to strengthen the playing squad during this January transfer window. TSI have met with Brian, Nick and the club to begin this process.

TSI is also delighted that Sir John Madejski has agreed to remain Chairman of Reading Football Club until at least 2014, and to become Life President if and when he decides to step down.

TSI wishes to emphasise that Reading Football Club's management team will remain unchanged, as will the fundamental policies of the club, including prudent fiscal management. Since Sir John Madejski took over at Elm Park in 1991 this club has rightly earned a first class reputation, on and off the pitch. TSI value and respect the ethos and approach held by everyone associated with Reading - the Chairman, staff, players and supporters.

TSI's financial support aims to allow the club to retain its best players and acquire additional players as the football management team see fit. It will also enable the club to expand and further improve its successful Academy and scouting operations.

Sounds all very sensible and measured. There might be hope yet. Do you have a link for this? I can't find one.

Shame they couldn't have agreed this a bit earlier when we actually had some real quality players to retain (i.e. Long and the Sig!).

But yeah I'm liking the sound of all this. I'm not too keen on a FM cheat mode/Man City/QPR/Leicester style i.e. just chuck money at it.

Sounds like they're probably going to trickle it in as and where needed.

Indeed, seems on the face of it to be a very decent deal for the club.

I like the tone of this. Very different to the arrongant and pompous Venkys at Blackburn. Fingers crossed.

And we shouldn't sign players just because. That would be the worst possible scenario. Sign kebe to a new contract. Buy an attacking midfielder and that's all we need.

This investment will enable us to hold onto players now as opposed to spend spend spend. So when our next SIG LONG DOYLE et al comes through we will keep hold them. Which is more pleasing than spending on random's.

this is a fantastic day for reading football club. for the first time since relegation from the premier league i have that fizz back in my belly that we can again start building something, and not dismantle it. there is a real possibility that we could get back to the premiership sooner rather than later, and now when we get there we would have a genuine chance to stay there this time.

absolutely fantastic!!
