Top Flight I like Stam's opening comments.
I also like what he said about his 18 year old Jong Ajax players coming up against 30 year olds in the professional leagues in Holland.
Hopefully that means that Jaap will have confidence to throw the youngsters into these highly competitive games against the big boys. Hopefully Jaap knows when is right to blood the youth. At the same time though, i don't think results were the most important thing for Jong Ajax. It was more about getting players ready for the Ajax first team. At Reading though, results do matter. He can only play the youth when they are ready and good enough to win games against Championship opponents.
His comments also underline again that very little money will be spent on the first team. Hopefully Samuel, Fosu, Kuhl, Stacey and the rest are ready for action. It's going to be a big season for these kids.

Nameless Once a player hits 20 surely he deserves more than being labelled a kid.
I can't see us using more than one teenager in the first team next season and players like Samuel , Cooper , Evans and Tishbola are adults with a full seasons worth of first team games under their belt.
It's hardly ground breaking for clubs to use 21 and 22 year old players is it ?

Norfolk Royal I took from Stam's comments that he is going to fill the team with a load of massive brutes in his own image. Might be fun.

You're right Nameless.
If they're good enough then they're old enough. Someone needs to be able to judge whether they are good enough and have the confidence to play them and let them gain experience. Hopefully Jaap is able to make the right decisions either way.

Forbury Lion I read on getreading a quote that Jaap Stam's first job is to sit down and discuss transfer funding with the owners.
Do managers really not discuss this before taking the job? - He might be in for a shock when he's told there isn't any/he can spend whatever we get back from selling players...... and then when they sign players without his involvement.
Possibly Brian McDermot's downfall, not establishing all the facts before taking the job both at Reading 2nd spell and Leeds... although I assume Clarke made the same mistake a Reading.

Nameless What do you think about Josh Barratt TF ? I'd been a bit unsure but the last couple of games he looked very comfortable.
At 18 he might be the one people are concerned about as being just a kid but I reckon he's worth getting straight in the side.

vdWindt Hi guys,
Just registered to give you guys some hope..
The manager Stam is one of the most talented in the Netherlands, who like al Dutch trainers like attacking football.. Difference is Stam style of working is very realistic and he doesnt attack at all cost. Did very good with the youngsters at Ajax and I was suprised that he was not chosen to follow up de Boer at the first team (pressure from the outside I think)
If the club let Stam do his job and get the Players he wants you will be in for a good season..

Top Flight So Jaap, which positions are your priority to strengthen this summer?
Can you give us any ideas as to which players you might be interested in to bring to the club?

I wonder what he's been promised then ? all the noises here are that there's no money in the kitty and that we will be heavily reliant on young players which concerns me slightly in this league ..
