Maybe the big name is just Stephan Andre Bikey Amougou or Zurab Khisanishvilli or Marcus Hahnemann or Ivar Ingimarsson.

Defoe+Gylfi would be strange, can't see Defoe working too well with Gylfi behind him. Fitting Roberts in as well would mean switching Gylfi to the left wing, which would be ridiculous, or midfield, which would be completely at odds with our current set up. Still, in Brian we trust.

I'd rather the "big name" was someone like Roberts or Riise or Craig Gardener or someone on that level. Riise and Gardener would be strange targets obviously and I don't think we're even considering either, but someone on that level rather than Defoe or Cole.

Z175 In hindsight, "It depends what you deem as exciting" wasn't the best way Nostradamus Mike should have warned the Fukushima workers...

Some idiot who isn't in the know PM'd me yesterday claiming the signings were Ugo Ehiogu and John Terry. Frankly, I was dubious.

How do Gyfli and Roberts not fit well into a 4-5-1/4-4-1-1?

People get confused by Roberts' size; they think we'll play long ball and hoof it up to the big man. Truth is, by far the best way to use Roberts is to play it into feet and let people feed off him.

Allow him to bully defenders, move about a bit (which he still does at 34) and it will create space for Gyfli on the ball and for the wingers to make runs. It would be perfectly effective.

Friday's Legacy
Basingstoke-Royal Just heard from a pretty good source @ Reading who it is that we could be getting

There is 2 MASSIVE names there and if they sign it will be AMAZING. Then theres also Mariappa who should be finished Tomorrow/Monday

BigMike isn't on a wind up. We have made an offer for a former Reading player. It's a complicated one, but it would be a massive sign of intent if we get him.

Mariappa is very close. He wants to come. Stories of the fee not being agreed are wrong, it was agreed weeks ago. The player has been on holiday and is either back now or due back, and then the medical can take place. Unless someone comes in late for him then it would appear to be a done deal.

That would complicate things wouldn't it
