Dai has cited Chinese banks and laws as excuses for not performing his duties as an owner so many times now that, even if he's telling the truth, it's difficult to believe him.

This is the 2020s, not the 1820s. Timezones are not an adequate excuse with modern communication technology.

That is true, but when you factor in two sets of lawyers and translators, plus the EFL and regulatory bodies on top of the timezone, it's hard to believe it's only taken 5 months to get this far.

It's gonna be more than two sets, there will be multiple layers of legal teams for the different investors, entities providing the funding, plus this seems to also involve various plots of land as well as the IP (club).

I've been involved in so called "simple M&A deals" and the number of people and intermediaries involved is always more than you'd imagine

Agreed. Like I say, he's cried wolf so many times that he's lost any benefit of the doubt people might be willing to give him.

WestYorksRoyal I hope all this work is helping take us back to a simple structure. Couhig owns the club, and the club owns everything. Bearwood, SCL all under one structure. Perhaps the Thais are involved and the hotel and car park are involved too. I've lost track of who owns what, it would be great if it's being sorted.

In the modern world of finance where none of the monies will actually belong to the figurehead 'owner' it's doubtful this will happen - it's gonna be some tax efficient opaque structure to minimise risk ... we ain't in Kansas anymore (or even Louisiana)

Of the potential legal jurisdictions we're dealing with:
  1. The football club is under England and Wales law.
  2. Dai is based in China.
  3. I seem to recall Renhe Commercial Holdings is based in the Cayman Islands.
  4. Couhig is from the United States (which would be at least two legal jurisdictions - both state and US federal law).
  5. Narin Niruttinanon being a director from Thailand (if he still is).
  6. IIRC, the investors were based in Switzerland (although there could be multiple investors in multiple countries).
This is just the things I can think of and that's at least seven different jurisdictions.

This is all true. But it also applies to most other deals in the top couple of divisions or so.

When the Thais bought us, it involved UK, Swiss, Russian, Thai, most certainly some dodgy tax haven places.

Similar when Dai bought us.

It's complex. But all football club deals are complex.

rabidbee Another slightly more topical pub quiz answer for you, despite being massive, China is all in the same timezone (Beijing's). Depending where you are in China, you can be anything up to one hour behind or three hours ahead of local solar time.

Also all pandas, wherever they are born, are Chinese and belong to the nation

That's why the Irish have to make Guiness out of Penguins instead of Pandas.

Does the BBC know something we don't? Next Saturday's fixtures for L1 show seven games postponed, but we don't feature at all! Should we start worrying or is this just another Reading FC are not worth bothering about? I can reach my own conclusions, of course, which will probably be the same as yours.

The game isn't showing as postponed because it's already been moved to a different date; the games showing as postponed haven't been moved yet.

When people really care, difficult things can get done quickly. Dai isn't showing the prioritisation and urgency to get it done.

Whether it's been rearranged or not shouldn't have any bearing. It should still show as postponed as it's a scheduled game on that date and there are people in the country that plan games to attend by looking at the fixture list well in advance.

Are the rumours true that Couhig is running out of patience. Couple of tweets suggesting that.

How would they know? more made up nonsense. twitter is full of it. he was there again today.

EDIT, I`ve just seen the tweet, why on earth would Couhig discuss anything like that about the deal in the hotel with a couple of total strangers?

I’m sure a lawyer/forensic accountant is going to talk about what is still a commercially sensitive deal with a load of teenage attention seekers in a hotel lobby.

Looking forward to this being the week that this thread finally gets moved to the hall of fame so we can eventually revisit to remember everything that went on from William Storey to the above twitter nobodies distributing can’t “cope-ium”..

PS - sure I saw Rob in the directors box before kick off having what looked to be a happy time and waving at various people.
