I think it's a bit rich of him to basically suggest that anyone who has a negative opinion of him isn't a true Reading fan.

It's almost as bad as the plastic fan comments the muppets on here bring out.

I have nothing against Jason Roberts and he did well for us in 2011/12 but I do find his twitter today annoying. First he makes several tweets which give everyone the impression he is retiring - there is no other way to read them and then he tweets he is not retiring yet.

Talk about wanting to be the centre of attention all the time.

Come on Jason. Make your mind up.

Maybe if those who have a negative opinion of him didn't present that opinion so aggressively then they might get a slightly better reaction.

Jason Roberts ‏@JasonRoberts30 17h
No official retirement just yet..TArmy..
I will release a statement in due course..

Yeah, that really sounds like he isn't retiring.

We probably need the new owners to pay off the clause in his contract that he also didn't activate...

‏@JonnyFordham
For those asking @JasonRoberts30 signed a new #readingfc deal in summer of 2012. He did NOT activate a clause after hip injury

Jason Roberts ‏@JasonRoberts30 18h
@JonnyFordham The myth that I activated a clause whilst injured is particularly offensive..glad to put that right..Contract signed 2012..

@JonnyFordham @JasonRoberts30 people who think that have no idea of the genuine person you are Jason

Tom ‏@TomProspect 18h
@JasonRoberts30 @JonnyFordham Problem is Jason, you or the club never announced it which leaves fans guessing (and assuming)

Chris RFC Du-val ‏@rfc19907 18h
@JasonRoberts30 @JonnyFordham have you bee getting paid for the time you have been out ? Must be one of the highest paid players

Jonny Fordham ‏@JonnyFordham 17h
@TomProspect That was down to the club - had players/ agents queuing up for new deals that summer - whether they were deserving or not

Tom ‏@TomProspect 17h
@JonnyFordham I didn't blame Jason I said no one announced it. Jason didn't have agents queuing up... One tweet to clarify? Not hard.

I don't know why fans are giving Roberts a hard time, If he's being paid too much and his contract was too long and wasn't fitness related then that's down to those a the club who offered him it and asked him to sign.

You can't blame someone for taking their wages and honouring a contract with a company in relatively good shape owned by two millionaires.

Absolutely right of course but we can still moan that the club (once again) was wrong to offer terms for old players (Bryn, Ledge etc.)using money that could have been put to better use like signing players who are younger, fitter and are going to play.

It's not the fact he's injured and I'm sure he's doing extra curricular stuff at the club that he wouldn't be doing had he been playing to justify his wages. It's the fact that he comes across as a complete bellend on Twitter.

Completely over the top about racism
Very egotistical, going on about his 'legacy' when they are much nicer more humble pro's that have been at the club, such as Murty, Parkinson etc.
Doesn't take criticism well
Aggressive and threatening in some of his responses
Anyone who has a negative opinion of him isn't a true fan
Fails to understand that fans pay a big part of his wages (So they are entitled to their opinion)

Firstly - If you can't take criticism (especially that which is fair), perhaps you shouldn't be a footballer and more obviously, you shouldn't be on twitter. Perhaps if he came across as being a decent bloke, he might not get some of the abuse he does.

I like him on Twitter.

He occasionally seems a bit up himself, but he is on the telly and the radio a lot and that must have a strange affect on anybody's personality. Overall, he seems quite human most of the time.

TFF
Alexander Litvinenko But the older you are, the more susceptible you are to both injuries and recurrences of previous injuries and the recovery time from each injury also increases - it';s harder to regain full fitness as well.

Roberts is now 35, and I fear that anyone who sees him as a season-long answer to our problem of a lack of a striker is clutching at straws here.

He's also building up a nice little media career, and has nothing really to prove in the game - what's his motivation for spending the time and effort regaining full match fitness?

If he recovers enough to play again (and I do think it's a big "if" - footballers' tweets can hardly be classed as "reliable evidence") then I can't see him making more than a handful of appearances/sub roles.

I don't think any of that is wrong but the h8 being whipped up by Dellor and co at the weekend is bang out of order.

Roberts is contracted to RFC and doubtless turns up for training/treatment Monday to Friday as required. If the club don't ask him to travel with the team then Saturday is his own time to do what he likes with.

The club took a punt on his age/fitness. It paid off big style with promotion and all the associated revenue. Plenty of RFC players have spent months on the treatment bench without getting dog's abuse. But Roberts is on the radio.

Roberts had a burgeoning media career before he joined RFC. I'm sure his media ambitions and commitments were discussed and agreed at the outset of his employment - in fact, I recall a 606 show which Roberts did live from the Mad post match.

If he spent his weekends parachuting or motorbike racing then it'd be fair enough to have a pop at the fella but bitching and whining cos he's on BBCR5 and Final Score is worse than lame. It stinks of jealousy from our smalltime local radio pundits.

I completely agree with the above. We would not have had a sniff of promotion without Jason's arrival. I would be a little sceptical as to the 3-6 weeks timescale given he has been out for so long. The fact that he is, I believe, out of contract at the end of the season may be a driver in presenting an optimistic future. Not sure what the club do if Jason comes back with eight games to go and scores a goal a game until the end of the season. Would they give him another year given his injury layoff?

If this happened he would definitely end up going to Leeds on a free

Well at least one of them is still scoring - 5 goals in 11 starts this season for the goal machine:
