RoyalChicagoFC **UPDATED Wednesday 2nd February 2011 @ 8:30 AM Eastern U.S.**

Just a reminder of what I first reported a few weeks back:

The league match at home to Queen's Park Rangers this coming Friday 4th February remains scheduled for live screening on Fox Soccer Plus, with kickoff set for 2:45 PM Eastern U.S. time

Fox Soccer Plus is a premium cable/satellite subscription channel --I myself don't get it, even though I'm on DirecTV and subscribe to a "sports tier" for an extra thirteen bucks a month that gets me regular ol' FSC, GolTV and a few other things

FS+ would cost me an additional $15 a month, and I won't pay it; any football pub worthy of being called such will be open for business and screening the action live

Two repeat screenings on FS+ of the QPR match remain set, with the first going from 8:00 PM Eastern on Friday nite and the other at 6:00 AM on Saturday morning; the nightly Fox Soccer Report on FSC should have highlights on Friday nite from 10:00 PM Eastern

I would imagine that Setanta will have it live in Canada --but as ever, Canada, Oz and everywhere else should check their own guides for details about this one

That may be it for the 2010-11 season as far as screenings of our guys' matches in the U.S. goes --fixture rearrangements for TV haven't been announced yet for dates beyond 2nd April, and we've got a couple of tasty matchups in there (Forest and Leeds --both away and scheduled for the 9th and 23rd of April, respectively) that may tempt Sky to do some tinkering, so do watch this space

Meanwhile, those with a serious interest in the general subject are invited to read on for the skinny on RFC and major European football competition as we screen it over this side...

General notes regarding U.S. TV arrangements for 2010/11:
Setanta US, which held the rights to Football League match telecasts, is now defunct and has been absorbed by Fox under the brand Fox Soccer Channel Plus. It's a premium subscription channel (available, e.g., on DirecTV channel 621), and they have taken on Setanta's past role of screening the Saturday tea time matches

It should be noted that the Fox Soccer properties have multiple contractual commitments (Premier League above all, plus Serie A and MLS), and the Football League is near the bottom of the pecking order; for this reason, RFC TV matches, when shown, in all likelihood will be shown on a same-day delayed basis with a smattering of repeat screenings

Available at a subscription rate of $15 per month is FoxSoccer.tv, which screens the Saturday tea time matches live and archives them afterwards

As for other action, both Fox Soccer Channel and FSC+ will continue to screen live and delayed Prem and Serie A fare on matchdays and throughout the week, and FSC outbid ESPN for Champions League when the deal came up, so that's where one will want to head on European matchdays for the next few seasons at least; FSC screens matches across several of its U.S. channels, including cable network FX and local Fox Sports Net affiliates (and DirecTV subscribers will have their choice of all but one --check Channel 480 for the menu) --and, now the Champions League final has been moved to Saturday afternoon U.S. time, it will screen live on free-to-air local Fox network affiliates. For access to FSC's main listings, look here

FSC also shows World Cup and Euro qualifying fare, England friendies, FA Cup ties and England international matches at the junior levels; for England's senior international matches, it's a matter of pay-per-view/pay-at-the-pub until the matches screen for free on FSC on a few days' delay

GolTV continues to bring a steady diet of live and delayed Primera Division and Bundesliga fare to screens across North America

ESPN will be showing Spanish Primera Division matches live throughout the upcoming season, but their schedule is staggered, and the particular channel on which matches will screen can change from week to week

Absolutely indispensable to the U.S. enthusiast is ESPN with their ESPN3 streaming platform, with Primera Division, 1.Bundesliga and Eredivisie galore on there --the football junky's paradise, well and truly

They archive whatever they show, so those who can't be there as it happens may try to remain ignorant of a given result and tune in at their leisure. I believe that registration is no longer required to access the stream, but access does seem to be restricted to North American IPs

Here are useful links for the football fan, whether the overseas visitor or the homeslice:

Fox Soccer Channel printable weekly schedules gateway (use links to .pdf files)
ESPN networks schedule (U.S. channels are ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNDeportes; others are international)
ESPN3 streaming platform
GolTV (mostly Primera Division, Bundesliga)
LiveSoccerTV.com listings
The506.com --tidier layout than the immediately preceding but often a bit slow with the facts

Finally, and for the record:

RFC U.S. match exposure scorecard for 2007/8 Premier League season (first-time screenings by category; League matches only)
Fox Soccer Channel/LIVE: 10 of 38*
Fox Soccer Channel/Same-day delay: 9 of 38
Setanta Sports Channel-Setanta Xtra/LIVE: 11 of 38**
Setanta Sports Channel/Same-day delay: 3 of 38
No U.S. TV: 5 of 38

RFC U.S. match exposure scorecard for 2006/7 Premier League season (first-time screenings by category; League matches only)
Fox Soccer Channel/LIVE: 13 of 38*
Fox Soccer Channel/Same-day delay: 7 of 38
Setanta Sports Channel-Setanta Xtra/LIVE: 9 of 38**
Setanta Sports Channel/Same-day delay: 2 of 38
No U.S. TV: 7 of 38

*Among these were all 5:15 Saturday, 4:00 Sunday and stand-alone Monday matches --thanks be to Sky for moving the fixtures to odd times, which left U.S. platforms with no real choice in the matter, as they show whatever game happens to be played at those times

**Among these were all stand-alone 12:45 Saturday and 1:45 Sunday matches, for reasons as stated above

You not got SkySports in the States?

Super Royals You not got SkySports in the States?

Nope, and it really wouldn't make sense for Sky to offer its service on a subscription basis over here

Many of the things that it has exclusive rights to carry in the UK (such as Euro 2012) it doesn't have the rights to carry over here (ESPN paid UEFA for the U.S. rights to Euro 2012), and the same would go for a lot of other sports (golf springs immediately to mind --U.S. networks already have the U.S. PGA Tour and the four majors divvied up amongst them-- plus rugby, F1, cricket and others)

As far as what'd be left over goes, there aren't enough of us who'd pay to watch darts or greyhound racing to justify what Sky would shell out in order to make itself available to the entire country and then hope to recoup in subscribers' fees

We get plenty of football on Fox Soccer Channel and FSC+ (both of which are within the Murdoch portfolio --trust me, he's making a bundle off of football over here and has to be pleased with things as they are), and we see Sky Sports News on FSC in hour-long chunks at dinnertime, overnite and in the morning (Hayley McQueen for me, although I was quite fond of Alison Bender when she was around; Isha Sesay is over here on CNN now, in case anyone had wondered)

Reminding once again now we're on a new page...

The league match at home to Queen's Park Rangers this coming Friday 4th February remains scheduled for live screening on Fox Soccer Plus, with kickoff set for 2:45 PM Eastern U.S. time

Fox Soccer Plus is a premium cable/satellite subscription channel; for most, it's a trip down the pub to see this one

Setanta has it live in Canada

In Oz, it's live on Fox Sports 3, Saturday morning @ 6:45am AEDST, with coverage starting at 6:30am

Also reminding again: that may be it for the 2010-11 season as far as screenings of our guys' matches in the U.S. goes, by the way --fixture rearrangements for TV haven't been announced yet for dates beyond 2nd April, and we've got a couple of tasty matchups in there (Forest and Leeds --both away and scheduled for the 9th and 23rd of April, respectively, jump off the page) that may tempt Sky to do some tinkering, so do watch this space

ESPN will broadcast live coverage of three FA Cup fifth round ties, starting on Sunday February 20 with Leyton Orient's home game against Arsenal at 3.30pm. On Monday, February 21 at 7pm ESPN will bring viewers live coverage of West Ham's clash with Burnley, while the evening of Tuesday, March 1 will see the winner of Chelsea and Everton's fourth round replay take on Reading.

We are going to be on ESPN I think unless that article is talking about an ESPN in the UK.

I think it is --UK, I mean (look @ the KO times shown --that's in GMT)

On 1st March, FSC have Chelsea v. Utd scheduled for a live screening, but that game'd get bumped for the Cup if the former win their fourth round replay

If that happened, then I don't know what FSC would do; I think they've got exclusive rights to the FA Cup in the U.S. now, and there are no other PL games on for that day, so it's a decent bet they'd show a Chelsea v. RFC fifth round Cup match if it came to pass (and we wouldn't know until Saturday week either way)

So we'll see --and in other news, Leeds away has been moved to Good Friday 22nd April from 2:45 PM Eastern and in all likelihood will screen live here on Fox Soccer Plus (with a same-day repeat screening from 8 PM EDT; we'll confirm anything when it can be done)

Re: Reading FC on U.S. TV: Everton (A) FAC5R Live @ 1430 TUE FS+

What it sez --our FA Cup Fifth Round match away to Everton is set for a live screening in the U.S. from kickoff at 2:30 PM Eastern time next Tuesday 1st March on Fox Soccer Plus

That's a super-premium cable/satellite channel that will have most looking to find it in a football pub, and any worthy of the name would have it

A same-day repeat screening is scheduled for 8:00 PM EST on FS+, and no other repeat screenings are scheduled --set the recorder or get in front of a TeeVee at either of Tuesday's appointed hours

Also be advised of the fact that Chelsea v. Utd in the league will kick off a quarter-hour after our own and is also to screen live, so think about getting situ8ed with time to spare if headed out to watch it as it happens

Please note further that our match away to Barnsley on Saturday 19th will kick off @ 11:00 AM Eastern in the U.S., and not at the normal 10:00 hour, owing to the U.S. resuming Daylight Saving Time two weeks before British Summer Time is in effect

So we'll have an extra hour's w8 for KO on the day, and there's no match on the following weekend of 26/27 March owing to a scheduled break for internationals

Looking farther ahead, we also know that Sky have moved our league match away to Leeds United to Good Friday 22nd April, and in all likelihood Fox Soccer Plus will have that one live from 2:45 PM Eastern (with a same-day repeat screening from 8 PM EDT also likely); again, we'll post the official word when and if we get it

RoyalChicagoFC What it sez --our FA Cup Fifth Round match away to Everton is set for a live screening in the U.S. from kickoff at 2:30 PM Eastern time next Tuesday 1st March on Fox Soccer Plus

Well, you'll have more chance of seeing it then us. Chelsea vs Man Utd rearranged for the same night (Sky). The Everton game is on ESPN. Can't think of one single pub in the Country, which will show our game (apart from the Merseyside region). I stopped subscribing to ESPN last month :|

Re: Reading FC on U.S. TV: Man City (A) FAC6R Live on FSC/clocks

by RoyalChicagoFC » 09 Mar 2011 15:51

Righto, folks --first up, Daylight Saving Time resumes in the U.S. overnite Saturday/Sunday, so be sure to move your clocks forward by an hour either just before bedtime on Saturday or first thing Sunday morning, and be advised that the UK and EU will be two weeks away from doing so at that time (so we on this side will have an extra hour to kill before normal kickoff times for the dur8ion)

Now then, another big, big day for the dear old club to which we proudly pledge allegiance as our FA Cup Sixth Round (quarterfinal) match away to Manchester City is set for a live screening in the U.S. from kickoff at 12:45 PM Eastern time on Sunday 13th March on Fox Soccer Channel (4:45 PM GMT)

Many cable and satellite packages include FSC as a basic menu item, and any football pub worthy of the name would have it as FSC's featured match on the day; indeed, a good many regular ol' sports bars open for business at the appointed hour would have it on, as would many hotel bars

Here's what Sunday's programming on FSC looks like (all times Eastern U.S. Daylight Time):

12:00 Noon: Super Sunday Plus (live weekly highlights/preview "expert panel" studio show)
12:45 PM Manchester City v. Reading from City of Manchester Stadium
3:00 PM Super Sunday Plus postmatch (as a practical matter, it's likely to start after full time and an advert break, and it runs until 3:30)
8:00 PM Man City v. Reading repeats in full
10:00 PM Fox Soccer Report nightly football news, analysis & highlights show (60 min.)

At 7:30 PM Eastern on Monday, FSC will show a 30-minute FA Cup Quarterfinals Review Show (the nice one that they send over from Lonners), and immediately thereafter FSC will screen the match in full one final time from 8:00 PM EDT (and then that'll close the book, as it's a Champions League week, and that's where Rupe makes his bazillions from football in the St8s)

Those who have, or have access to, Fox Soccer Plus may view/record the 30-minute review of the round show at the following times:

Monday from 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM
Tuesday from 5:30 PM
Wednesday from 1:30 PM
Thursday from 10:00 AM and again from 10:30 PM

Reminder for those on my side of the puddle: owing to the temporary difference in clock settings, Barnsley away in the league on Saturday 19th March will kick off at 11:00 AM Eastern instead of the usual 10:00, and then comes an international break after which normal time conversions will be back in effect for RFC and all other match kickoffs

Here's to an absolutely massive Sunday that none of us ever shall forget

Re: Reading FC on U.S. TV: Leeds (A) Friday 22 April --Dunno yet

by RoyalChicagoFC » 13 Apr 2011 16:26

Still no word from the dopes @ Fox Soccer Channel with respect to Leeds away on Good Friday, folks (indeed, there's no FSC sked posted for anything at all on Easter weekend, Prem and Serie A inclusive, which should come as no surprise given it's not as if we've reached the business end of the season or anything  )

It's my strong suspicion that it will screen live, as would any other stand-alone Football League match of a Friday, on Fox Soccer Plus (FSC's premium sub-channel) from 2:45 PM Eastern U.S. time on 22nd April, which would have nonsubscribers scrambling to the pubs and elsewhere; there also should be a repeat screening in prime time (8 PM EDT)

But again nothing is confirmed, so stay chooooooooon'd, m8z (and feel free to be first with the news here when it's made known)

The Leeds match is scheduled for live airing at 2:40 PM EDT on Apr 22 on FSC+

It follows the Forest - Leicester match, also live.

I may have to take that Friday afternoon off...

Top digging jgr --and now I see that monitoring FSC et al for developments has taken on the character and dimensions of providing home care to the demented elderly and/or hyperactive children

Let's do a comprehensive schedule of Fox Soccer Plus programming for that weekend then --they've got the C'ship covered like a proverbial (all times Eastern U.S. except as noted)

Friday 22nd April
12:15 PM Nottingham Forest v. Leicester City live
2:45 PM Leeds United v. Reading live
7:00 PM Sky Sports News (60 min.)
9:00 PM Forest v. Leicester repeats in full
11:00 PM Fox Soccer Report
12:00 Midnite/9:00 PM West Coast Leeds v. RFC repeats in full

Saturday 23rd April
7:45 AM Cardiff City v. Queen's Park Rangers live (repeats on Monday from @ 4:00 AM EDT/1:00 AM PDT)

Sunday 24th April
12:30 PM EDT/9:30 AM PDT Millwall v. Preston North End (first-time delayed screening; match to be played the preceding afternoon)

Now need to keep eyes peeled for anything that they might be showing on Easter Monday 25th April, when there's a full slate of fixtures set for 10:00 AM EDT kickoff (we've got Blades at home)
