Royal Rother If that is how you feel FineRain then there really is no point.

You have to get some excitement from the young home-grown players coming through to the 1st team for it to be a worthwhile experience supporting a football team.

If you really don't get that excitement then I respectfully suggest you pick another team / sport to get the satisfaction you deserve for the financial and emotional outlay you make.

Isn't that what you've done RR? I thought you hardly went to Reading any more and up until recently went to Windsor & Eton FC instead?

That is correct.

But I enjoy what Reading are doing and get pleasure from the fact that they do things in, what I consider to be, the right way.

I just can't be arsed with professional football in a big way - I don't have any real craving for us to get to the PL because of everything that entails (overhype etc.) and the fact that it really isn't a level playing field - clubs overspending have an advantage in the short-term, then don't get adequately punished etc. etc.

So I decided I'd turn my support to me local team and get away from all that money-bollox, only for my team to go out of business 2 1/2 years later due to pathetic financial mismanagement!!

So what exactly do you want?

The bizarre demand would appear to be:

Spend More! Sell Less! Lose Less!

Not entirely sure the maths on that one works.

No, the demand is to spend SOMETHING but morons like you try to belittle this idea and laugh it off. You twats have been getting your own way with how the club's been run since we went down and look where it's got us - nowhere. Keep Coppell, sack Rodgers, we have no money from the tens of millions of player sales, wage cuts and parachute payments...why don't you f*ck off you tiresome delusional waste of space and tell Madejski to go with you.

Why are you still bringing up Rodgers? The club made 100% the right decision to sack him; look at our progress since. He had an entirely different set of circumstances at Swansea and has been helped by learning from the mistakes he made with us. Get over it.

I'm quite satisfied with how the club is doing thanks. If you don't like it, perhaps it should be you who goes somewhere else, not me.

£6m+ spent on fees since relegation. Pretty much what we were spending before promotion (and making major loses on).

The time is right for another pants day to show Sir Tigharse and his pathetic whipping boy Hammond that some money needs investing, otherwise we will end up relegated, if not this year, then next.

£7m Siggy, £4m Mills and now £6m Long, you can't tell me the black hole was that much in 2 years.

I'm not expecting to spend it all, but surely we can expect 3 new players out of it? Left back, centre back (that can both actually run) and
a striker.

Never thought i'd accept or respect your approach to things, but I find myself taking this viewpoint now. There just really isn't a lot to get excited about anymore. For every positive you can find, there are more negatives in response, its like an addiction..deep down I know i've fallen out of love with the game but still find myself going anyway.

i see why its frustrating to lose our best players and not invest big visible chunks of the money. But until the window/loan situation is sorted, or the accounts are out for this period i refuse to judge the club either way. I am forced therefore,to judge purely on past events, which has shown a proven track record of remaining competetive, while consolidating financially, and lately adding a functioning, fit for purpose academy.
And lol at the idea that any group of fans has any say,or way of getting their way with the club.and a good job too if the current general angst is anything to go by.
And you can guarantee that everyone will be up in arms the minute we stop being competetive,or there is evidence of any syphoning off by jm.including me.

What I don't get is why anyone thinks the club should be judged on anything else.

Schards#2 Happy days, lets start some balance sheet related chants whenever we are being beaten.

I'd rather sing about going to Wembley as we did last season, with a financial policy that's exactly the same this season as it was the last.

How about a chant of:

McDermott
Woah oh oh
He used to manage Slough
And then he managed Reading with an impressive track record of selling players on for large profit
And then he got frustrated at not being able to reinvest
And then another club noticed how successful he was at finding decent players for a small fee and poached him
And then Reading appointed someone less skilled at scouting and the quality bargain signings dried up
And then Reading fans remembered that the likes of Doyle and Long and Shorey and Kitson and Sonko were actually not academy products

This might help.

Cheers. The other thing I particularly dislike about the pro game is all the hatred. Hatred of opposition clubs just because they are local, their players, managers and supporters etc. It is not something I feel myself or want to be a part of and frankly, being around people spewing forth their hatred over a football match makes me feel physically sick.

The quality might be down a few notches but it's much more of a friendly atmosphere at non-league and that suits me just fine.

This is where I have arrived at.
I kicked a 40 odd year habit this season.
If the club, or the chairman was actually making a profit on my meagre season ticket money, then I honestly wouldn't begrudge them a penny of it.
The reality is that all the money from the fans and advertisers alike just finishes up being diverted straight into the pockets of overpaid, over rated footballers, so they can swan around in their Audi R8's, to the ultimate detriment of the clubs that the fans support.
I haven't fallen out of love with Reading FC, I'll always be a fan: it's pro football generally I'm sick of.

I think you'll find that Madjeski is completely in agreement concerning the level of player wages and the greed of agents. The problem is that he cannot make a lone stand otherwise our players would simply move on to another club (lack of ambition I then hear cry). He has certainly been pushing for wages to be reduced by the clubs as a whole but when you get the madmen running clubs like Leicester that undermines everything. Cardiff had Bellamy on vast wages and West Ham's wages bill is a complete joke and has been for years.

Unfortunately, I have been reading a book recommended on here called "Why England Lose" and they have analysed success at soccer in the leagues. They have found that it is not the level of transfer fees that determines success but the size of the club's wages bill. There is a very high correlation between that and league position.

So if we pay all our current players more money then we will finish higher in the league?

RR,
First of all you support a club which manages to develop a mysterious black hole out of nothing.
Secondly you switch allegiance to a team that goes out of business.
There is a link there surely............
Would you please now start supporting Man Utd or Chelsea.

Add me to this list as well. Until clubs are forced to accept responsibility for fuelling this epoch-busting greed and being suitably punished when they spend other people's money with no way of paying it back, nothing's going to change. Look at Man City - throwing it around like it's going out of fashion and apparently having no regard for the new financial fair play rules when dishing out 230 grand a week to all and sundry - or even Leicester, who must go up this year as I doubt their Thai investors will stick around long after spending what they have recently to see no reward.

It's all complete madness, and against the backrop of some genuinely hard times, is nothing short of immoral.
