blythspartan I like Pauno and he’s been dealt a poor hand but we need a manager like Warnock right now. Someone who can organise the defence and mould a team out of what we have. I don’t believe that Pauno is capable of this. Take away the start to last season and his record isn’t good.

Jimmy Floyd could possibly be the answer but not sure if anyone would want to come here right now. I just want to go to a game and see some hope for the future but right now it’s a fcuking shambles.

Why take away the irst 8 games of last season, why not take away the last 8?

Because a) the start stood in stark contrast to the rest of the season, which was generally shit so either you take out the first 8 or the last 38 and b) honeymoon performances are a well documented well known phenomenon whereas toward the end you really do get a good idea of what a manager is like as he's had a whole season more to instill his ideas/learn the league/squad etc. The last few games are likely to be far more representative of manager skill than the first few.

A guy who took Chicago Fire which had finished 20th and bottom one season and had them 20th and bottom the next season. Then got then 3rd the season after, then 20th again (though out of 23 this time) then 17th the season after.

He's had his good spell already. Will he be able to turn it around. He didn't do it at Chicago Fire. One good season, like he suddenly surprises people and they don't know what to do, then they figure it out.

Royal_jimmy His interview after the game really pissed me off.

He's on cuckoo land if he thinks we were solid today.

What exactly do you want him to say? If he slagged off the team and performance, some would say he had thrown the team under a bus.

This 100% just look at how many teams have gone down to league one and never recovered or languished in the league for years.

Less revenue, less coverage, lower attendances, less sponsorship revenue, less secondary spend etc I don’t think we will go down but we must avoid league one at all costs

At all costs is what has put us up shit creek.

Well a “spell” in the third division won’t fix that. No matter what you think/bore everyone about consistently.

Exactly and at all costs I didn’t mean sounding silly money, we can’t do that anyway  I meant doing anything possible

Huge week for Pauno and the club. They need to find one or two strikers, a LB and possibly another attacking midfielder. I appreciate they can sign free agents after the window shuts but we desperately need new faces ASAP.

We need at least a point away at Huddersfield and if Pauno can’t mastermind one point he needs to go. I keep saying I like him but he seems to have a knack of clutching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Would help if he was just honest, might be a good start. He doesn't need to criticise individuals or slag off the players, you can say we were crap in a variety of ways without resorting to giving the players a public dressing down.

Paunovic sticking his head in the sand yesterday after the game is just insulting our intelligence.

I like Pauno - he did a great job last year on the whole

But I do have my concerns about him in the current situation. Definitely a big week on the transfer front. He needs to do something about the Moore/Morrison horror show at the back. Demand a left back in

Do seem to be just drifting along making the same mistakes atm.

Definitely feels more a Mark Bowen than Pauno situation currently. Maybe he fancies coming back and helping out for a bit :)

Interesting. Yeah perhaps he has this big positivity effect on players then that effect wears off.

But to be fair to him didn't Chicago also have a bunch of financial problems or something? I might have made this up but I'm sure I remember something written about this.

How much do you know about what was going on at Chicago Fire at the time? From what I understand, more in turmoil than we are. At least our owners want to back the club and the manager if allowed to.

And there's a reason why the perennial manager vacancy candidates are always hovering around - they're generally no damn good, otherwise they would be working consistently. Like the best players, the best manager candidates are likely to be able to find more promising employment opportunities than Reading.

Paunovic has a good record of being able to work with youngsters and that's pretty much what any manager is currently going to have to do at Reading.

I'm sure he will be demanding a left back, but him demanding it can't just make it happen due to to FFP and the EFL.

So he's not that great a manager with financial problems. Well, we have financial problems. So is he the right guy?

I'm not calling for him to be sacked, because it is a difficult problem, but I think he'll be gone by xmas.

We can sign players up to 8.5 p/w. We’ve already signed two. Absolutely he can demand that is the next player we get in

Quite happy to carry on backing Pauno - but what I will not put up with is this Orwellian bullshit of revisionism.
What we witnessed yesterday was dire, and telling us it was something else, makes him look incompetent and is an insult to the people who went and witnessed it.
At least be truthful. If they were playing shit, say so - at least it gives us hope in thinking he might make some attempt to rectify and improve the situation.
If he thinks that was solid and we played well, we can only expect more of the same and we’ll have to leave him to his fate.

Comparisons with Chicago don't really work as they have an entirely different transfer system over there, mainly based on swapping players and getting preferential youth picks if your team is bad.

The positives - based squarely on the two home games I've attended - I like the way he has got us attacking. It's not all tippy-tappy wait, wait, wait like we've been bored with for years. He's got us playing some good pass & move stuff around the box, to play players into positions. For the first time in years, I can see how we intend to create chances.

The bad - defensively it all looks poor, and the midfield can get dominated all too easily, and we have worrying spells where we can't string two passes together when that happens.

Things beyond Pauno's control - the financial shitshow leaving us with an unbalanced and paper thin squad, that's being hit by injuries to key players.

I would ask would we really expect another manager to do better? Who was the last manager we apppointed who you think would do better given this squad? Why would you expect the next manager to be any better than any of the recent ones?

Good managers are rare in any club's history, and very few of them get it right after one year. Most take two or three years to really make their mark. It just seems to be the way now that people believe sacking the manager will fix everything, ignoring all the underlying problems elsewhere. It's not exactly worked out for us in recent years, with Pauno being our eighth full time manager since McDermott got sacked.

I think Bowen would have us better organised at the back by now, but other than that you're going back to McDermott 2, Adkins, Coppell, Pardew.

Which tells a tale in the quality of managers available to us and entrusted with the job by the current owners.

Still early days, but how much is the departure of defensive coach John O’Shea playing ?

(Yeah, we’ve had a couple of departures) Last season our defence were pretty well solid.

Our defence was far from solid in the 2nd half of the season.

Pauno deserves more time and has been horribly unlucky with injuries. To lose our top scorers to serious injury inside the second League game of the season is ridiculous. I feel it's going against him and don't think he is going to be able to turn things around. It just feels like we are a club going in the wrong direction.

Pauno seemed to have us set up more defensively at the start of last season with Rino and Laurent literally sitting in front of the back four and not pushing forward. We need to back to that. Start looking to keep things tight and try and keep some clean sheets.
